Bounding box error

I've been successfully exporting dts files from maya using maya2dts, but am now running into an error. After i select my mesh, triangulate it and delete it's history, I open the dts utility and click the "Create Bounding Box" button. A bounding box appears, but it's not centered around the object and the error log in maya shows "Error: No object matches name: bounds."
Also, I cannot Lock the bounding box. If I change the name of the bounding box from the default "boundsShape" to just "bounds" I can lock the box but when I try and export the whole thing I get a popup error from the dts utility that says "No bounds found"
Any ideas? Something must be messed up somewhere but I can't seem to find what, as I've followed all instructions for export in Maya and have been doing it just fine until now.

Thanks for replying Dave. I've looked at my hypergraph and everything is as it should be. I can't get the bounding box to work for any shape, simple or complex. The work around I've found is to create the bounding box, rename it "bounds" instead of the "bounds1" it's being named, lock it and triangulate it. If I don't triangulate the bounding box, it won't let me export. All this makes me think that perhaps there is a problem with the dts utility. I've reinstalled the plugin and dts utility but am running into the same issues. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

delete some times when joining multiobjects together into one shape you get this issue clean up the scene
file some freeze transforms delete history then try a new bounds.
