Another TGEA Demo crash

by Kim · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 03/05/2007 (6:17 am) · 4 replies

Good mornin',

I downloaded and installed the TGEA Commercial Demo successfully. Just as soon as I double-clicked on the program's shortcut icon, I got hit with the following error:

---> An unhandled win32 exception occurred in TGEA.exe [2744].

In my VS2005 debugger, additional information included:

---> Unhandled exception at 0x004d53ce in TGEA.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000000.

Thinking the install probably went sour somewhere, I uninstalled the demo, downloaded the "Indie" version of the demo instead, and tried again with basically the same errors displayed.

I have been able to run some of the TGE game demos available here on this computer (Think Tanks, Venture Africa) flawlessly, and as long as my computer's hardware fits the minimum specs, other DirectX9c games (this is a mobile pc). This isn't the latest n' greatest of computers, but the drivers/etc. should be all up to date.

Some computer specs:

Computer: HP Presario 2500 (DS549U)
CPU: Mobile Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz
RAM: 256 MB
DirectX version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
OS: Windows XP (Home)
Gfx hardware: 64MB RADEON IGP 345M; Chip type: RS200M AGP (0x4337)

Hopefully, I'm not taking up too much space, but some possibly-pertinant info is below:

Can the 64MB RADEON IGP 345M Even Handle Shaders?

I would suspect that your video is not up to par to handle tgea.
I've run into similar problems with a few computers, which has been solved by using a computer with a better video card.

AFAIK, ATI MOBILITY IGP 340M/345M does not support pixel shaders, and even if it did, 64MB video memory is too little.

Thank you for the quick response. With our target market being those on older technology, looks like TGEA isn't quite what we need without losing a lot of potential users. But TGE may do it. Appreciate your time!
