Wish: auto "notify me" if posting a new thread or resource

by Orion Elenzil · in Site Feedback · 02/27/2007 (10:46 am) · 8 replies

When i submit a resource or a new thread topic,
it's pretty much a sure thing that i want to be notified of replies.

*especially* resources.

.. actually, come to think of it,
i think you have to actually click the moderately small
"review resource" link immediately after you submit
in order to check the "notify me" box.

There's a "Notify when new comments are posted" checkbox at the bottom of all resources, blogs, forum threads, and IOTD's, if that's what you're talking about. Is that not working properly?

Kinda -
what i'm requesting is that that checkbox be automatically checked when either
posting a brand-new thread (not a reply), resource, blog entry, etc.

ie so i don't have to remember to view my own resource and check that box after submitting it.

this has happened to me a bunch of times,
where i'll be happen to revisit a resource i posted a while ago
and see a bunch of questions or comments which i would very much like to have been emailed about,
but i forgot to check the box.

Ok, I see now. I understand your request, but I think most people would agree that the default setting for any feature of the GG website should be to *not* spam people's inboxes. I know I would hate to have to remember to uncheck an extra box just to avoid spam. It makes much more sense, at least to me, that if you want more information you should have to request it, and I don't think it's unnecessarily difficult to so so at the moment. What would you think of maybe a per-user setting that could be enabled in your profile?

Hiya!

that would be awesome!

i gotta disagree a little tho; while it's true noone wants to be spammed, it's hard to picture a person posting a whole new forum thread or resource or blog post which they don't want to know about replies to. - and do you really even want people posting new forum threads who don't want replies ? take a moment and picture a new thread post like that.. ..it feels like noise to me.

Aye, that would be nice.

I talked to the web guys about it, but they're all busy putting the finishing touches on GGE. If this feature gets added, it won't be until after the dust settles from GGE's release. Sorry for the bad news.
