Debit Cards

by Andrew Martin · in Site Feedback · 02/23/2007 (1:39 pm) · 8 replies

Your site doesn't seem to accept debit card payment? I've used this card to buy a tonne of other stuff before (including Defcon from the introversion shop), but debit cards aren't listed as acceptable and it didn't work when i tried it.

Any chance of this being changed in the (near) future?

Most of the cards that I've seen are run as Visa or Mastercard through the issuing bank but are tied directly to the account versus a line of credit. Working with small debit agencies is a pain, though. I don't know if it will happen any time in the future. Better to do the send-in payment option.

I live in the UK though, so it seems like it would be quite a lot of trouble to go to just for an indie game you'll play every now and again =/

I dont actually know how to send a letter to america, but i'm assuming it involves some kind of further complication? Plus, posting a letter is actually a fairly large step out of my daily routine anyway (i'm only 17, living in the countryside). It just seems like a bit of a pain for a casual purchase such as this x.x

Americans dont have the luxury of the "debit" system other countries like yours and mine do (i'm in canada)

unfortunately when you deal with an american company, the only universal currency is visa, mastercard, and american express.

Last I checked, you can get debit cards in the US?

You might want to send an email for a more immediate response.

Yes, but thier systems work a little different.

What i call my "debit card" is a direct link to my bank account. It's not run through Visa or any CC processor. All our banks in canada are linked. No matter where i go, if it's a store with a debit terminal, an ATM, I can use my debit card to pay from my checking, savings, line of credit, anything my bank offers me.

What i call my "credit card" is a visa. It could be a mastercard, or anything else. It can also be used in most places, even quite a few ATM's. It draws money from a "credit" system, for which i'm billed.

It's my understanding that what most amercans call thier "debit card" is usually a visa or other CC, which either runs via actual credit, or through to thier bank account. I used to work for "Sprint PCS" as customer service, dealing with american customers. When they called in to make a payment with thier "debit card" we had to get them to specify what they meant. 100% of the time, they meant a credit card, and just didn't know the difference.

Edit: Too much work.

Ah, it's alright. The developers are trying to arrange something so i can buy it (and other people with debit cards, i guess). Apparently they are limited be a GG contract at the moment, but they said the game should be available from other distributers fairly soon anyway.

Thanks for trying to help though. I suppose the presence of this topic is worthwhile just to make sure GG are aware of this. Probably wont cause them too much trouble, but a digital distributer is potentially passing up a whole lot of business by gearing themselves towards just one nation... for a start, the whole of the UK now accepts debit as a standard (including with chip&pin), and that's what everyone under the age of 18 (and often those over) uses. It's probably worth thinking about.

It's a Visa Check Card and it's a debit card which can be run through Visa machines pretty much anywhere that takes Visa credit.

It's not a credit card, though. It's 100% debit, though it does have to be run like it's a credit card through machines.

Of course, if you can't get one then it doesn't help your cause. :) Maybe if GG accepted Paypal (which can be directly linked to a bank or credit account)?
