Tree Exporting using Tree Magik

by DarqueLord · in Artist Corner · 02/21/2007 (4:19 pm) · 7 replies

Im using Tree Magik. I have imported the tree into Max and have set up the export properly as I would any other export. However it throws errors saying its found an object named vis2 twice. I am assuming that the tree model is split into 2 parts and it messing up the exporter somehow... Anyone know how to overcome this? Please help, DL out.

I had this problem before....My solution? I switch to the old exporter.

Now, which exporter are you using?

I am using the one from the download page. I use Max6... I guess I could be messing it up somehow... Whats your method? DL out.

...All you need to do is rename one of the parts I believe.

Yes, it does get confused by any part ending in a number, your tree creating program may be putting out parts ending with numbers, which can confuse the export since it uses trailing numbers to decide detail levels. Go into the scematic veiw so you know you're seeing everything, and on anything ending with digits that doesnt have them to designate its detail level, change it to something that ends in letters.

Sorry for the side note here...but any of you guys have a problem bringing trees from Tree Magik into Max where like 40% of the leaves have to have their normals flipped once in Max? I've just been flipping the normals back by hand, but it is chore and I'm wondering if I can avoid the problem somehow. Max 8, current version of TreeMagik.

Russel, you could try go into VERTEX mode, select all then Weld:Target (with a low target pixel setting).
Then use Polygon mode, select all, and try Normals:Unify.

Of course it should not matter what direction your normals face if you use a 2-Sided texture. But If you are getting ODD shadows, with a 2-sided texture try the 'Smooth Modifier' and click the Auto Smooth box.

TreeMagik is a poor tree creator. There, I said it.
