What are the port used between server and client?
by BLACKHOUND · in Torque Game Engine · 06/14/2002 (10:15 am) · 11 replies
I need to know what ports are used by the server and client to communicate between each other. Any of know know this or know where I can find this info?
I need it because we are going to set up a server in a DMZ behind a firewall.
Any info/bug/comments related to server being hosted behind firewall will also be welcome.

Sorry, I know this is a newbie question. The fact is I am a newbie and I need to find this info fast for a meeting monday. :(

What script file are you refering to? A name would help me a lot.
Thanks

Huh, can you be a little more specific? I am new to this engine, downloaded it yesterday. Now I have to prepare for a meeting and we will need to discuss server protection and firewall settings. But I do not know much about the engine. :(What script file are you refering to? A name would help me a lot.
Thanks

If you're going into a meeting to discuss using the Torque engine, you should know something about it beforehand. If you only downloaded it yesterday and your meeting is today, who's fault is that? Why should we help you with this kind of request?

If you're really using a DMZ, then you don't need to know the ports. A DMZ forwards _all_ ports.

Because it's the nice thing to do. Remember if you can't say (post) something nice (Or constructive) don't say (post) anything at all.
The ports are currently:
28000 - Server Port
28002 - Master Server Port
If you edit defaults.cs (It appears about 3 times) you can change the Server Port to be whatever you want.

BTW, I agree with your comments on forum etiquette. I do not know why some people will get angry at newbie questions! Why are forums for if not to help each other out?
I know that having a meeting without knowing everything is not pretty wise. But sometimes outside event forces people to do unwise things.
Thanks again Harold!

Easy boy. What was that all about? You've written so many good posts and contributed so many good things in this community that we didn't expect to see this from you. This was a legitimate question posted by a stated newbie. Having a bad day?
BTW, thanks, Labrat.

Hey Blackhound, I'm sorry. Yeah I'm having a REALLY bad week, and my temper got carried away with me. I'm also tired, which doesn't help. So sorry folks.
