Placing objects on the landscape

I've modeled a railing which I want to place on a flat section of ground. The only problem is the grid that moving objects appear to be on is too coarse, so my railing is always floating above or sinking below the ground.
Is there any way to find the height of the landscape at that current point and to manually enter the Z coordinate on the object? If I try to modify the coords listed in the textboxes on the right of the in game editor it appears to move the bounding box, but not the object itself.

I always just moved the object an arbitrary distance, then hit CTRL-Z to put it back. You don't have to worry about accuracy in your movements that way.

Do you know of a way to get the height at a specific vertex on the landscape? I only know what it was because I set to to 100 with the set height tool.

Thanks, it worked great!Do you know of a way to get the height at a specific vertex on the landscape? I only know what it was because I set to to 100 with the set height tool.

Erm. Somewhere in the settings is a movement scale adjustment that would allow finer movements. Since I haven't spent any real time in the new editor yet (and I'm at work), I can't say where to find it atm tho.

It's under Edit/World Editor Settings... You'll see the Move Scale box, default setting is 0.2. I usually use 0.001 for fine tuning. If I need to match up objects perfectly, I go into the World Editor Inspector and adjust the position numerically (x,y,z).

There is also a set height tool, I believe the field you are looking for is under Edit|Terrain Editor Settings (or something close.) After you set that, Set Height will put all vertices you use it on at that height.Vic-D

Grab the model by one of the axis' and move it sligthly (I normal grab the z axis) up and then down again. This should move it 20cm up and 20 cm down. This will for some reason put the model where it should be.
I dont know why it dont automaticly update the position of the model but it dont.
Maybe Mark F could look into this if he get some spare time :)
