Ok, so I've made a really simple skin, it probably need more detail, but that's something I can make in the future...
Shadows version, smooth is bad cause some part of the mesh are not welded, I've got a problem of unit preventing me from doing it. There are also a bad UVmap on the hands (not the best part of your model David! ;o)
So I've made some dirt.

The 100% of self illumination version:

And here is my version, with some change in proportion and mesh:

Feedback are welcome...

Did I forget to weld the pieces back together? lol if I did. I can't remember. I will go back and take a look. Send me the .3ds of the modified peasant if you would please. He looks a bit more energetic than the original. He has perky shoulders :) Nice work folks.

The skins look great! I know that the hands suck, but I figured the extra polys weren't going to be worth it. Did I forget to weld the pieces back together? lol if I did. I can't remember. If your going to tweak the mesh please take a look at the belt, in the midle, front and back you got some useless slit that takes up alot of polys and doesn't do any good to the model.

I'll get rid of the slits. I know exactly what you're talking about. I just never got around to doing it. Dave

Very nice! His expression is quite funny though; like he's just seen a whole army of 25 foot Trolls coming his way!

dunno about the "dirt" on his hands: it looks like he's just had his hands up a cow's arse. Now I know some peasants do that, but not all of them ;)

I'm going to tweak the model a bit. I'll get rid of the slits on the belt and remake the hands. It shouldn't effect the skin layout. I don't like you guys having to hide a glaring blemish like that. Will work on it when I have some free time.Dave

I have redone the hands and gave them a better uvw map. I have also gotten rid of the slits in the belt. I am sending the new files to the relevant people.

I have touched the model up, scaled it to the right size, added a mount node in the right hand (For a bag)and I have finished a general walking animation, and a burdened walk (dragging a heavy bag behind). Everything is exporting properly, except I don't know how it will look with a skin on it. If anybody has a skin work in progress, could you please send it to me at davetharris@hotmail.com. I would like to see if there are any areas of stretching throughout the animations that will affect the skins. Thanks a lot folks.

Btw here is some of my own progress, it is alot darker than your peasant. We have to see if we can work out a way how to combine heads on body textures. If Greg has some progress maybe he could post it so we can see if we can get some concistancy in these textures.
Maybe mine is a bit to dark i tent to make my textures a bit dark..
