Hello,
Well, i'm defiantly new to game dev, and i've been lookign around I love alot of different thigns i'm seeing for Torque engine, and community support.
I'm really intereste din buying it, learnign it, doign some small stuff, and then hopefully go on to creating some Larger games.
I have a few questions. I can't seem to find answers to.
1.) From what I have read TGEA, Has everythign TGE 1.5 does, but with shader support, and other new enhancments and updates etc Correct?
2.) If I bought TGEA, now Does that mean I will get the Final Version when it comes out without having to pay anymore?, Or will it be an upgrade fee?
3.) If I bought TGE, and later decided to upgrade to TGEA(or final version) Is there like jsut a Upgrade Fee to do so?
3.1) Sorta another question to this, If I used TGE to make soemthign then later decided to get TGEA, I'm sure upgrading the game into the new version will work pretty much flawlessly?
I think thats All I can think of.
I'm just now sure if I should just go ahead and by TGEA, or start with TGE, I'm an idividual don't have tons of money, So, I'm tyring to check up on these thigns befroe I buy.
My goal, is MMO's, in the end (Know I hear alot of things about it etc, I've lurked aroudn the forums for a few days, so i've heard peoples comments), But I"ve done VB programming, PHP, Different things, I know but, Well For one I love programming Scripting with a passion. So no i'm not expectign like tons right off the bat, and I knwo I hae to learn alot, but I plan on it.
But, I'm open to comments and suggestions anyone has. On what I should get to Start, I could afford the liek $249, for TGEA but atm its a little much for me.
Main thing, i'm concerned with is, if I got TGE 1.5, and later got the TGEA, will I beable to get it at Atleast a reduced, or License upgrade Fee? (Like the cheaper 1.4.2 > 1.5 I seen) And Will Upgrading the game to the new version go, with no problems?
Thanks

2) Yes, it means you will get the final version when it goes live, without any extra cost.

Welcome to the cult. :D

1) TGEA will have most of the features which TGE has, with some improvements. It is in an Early Adopter stage right now, so some things aren't working properly. It is likely that some other features will be missing in the final version too, such as the terrain editor (which is quite an important one if you want to use it for an MMO).
2) Upgrading from early adopter to the final version should be free. It is not clear yet (not to me anyways) if future upgrades will be free as well. I'd really like to know.
3) I think so but I don't really know.
3.1) It should be easy enough if you don't change the source code too much and do some scripting instead. If you start merging in other people's resources and adding your own changes, then it's gonna be harder.
I won't say anything about MMO's being too hard to code for an individual, because I believe it is actually possible if you have some time. But MMO's are definetely very expensive, at least in terms of hardware and bandwidth requirements. If you want to do it as an individual without a team, then I assume you will need to buy some content packs, models, textures, etc. which may be quite expensive too, depending on how many you need.
