Sony Acid

Hi, I was wondering if I bought Sony ACID (http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/products/acidfamily.asp) and bought one of the loop packs (http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/loop_libraries/content.asp) if I would be able use the loops to create music for a commercially sold game. Does anyone have any experience with this?. Thank you.

To make good music with loops is normally hard. Also originality goes down below zero. You will also have to read carefully the licence agreements on those loops.

You can, if they are royalty-free loops, and as per making music with just loops, thats your choice man, somebody spent time making those loops, so you might as well use them if you dont have a problem doing so...

but im pretty sure once you buy the loop pack, you can sell it.

post some stuff after you make it, lemme hear the crazy loops in action. peace.

Matthew: Most loop collections are royalty-free, but read the license to be sure. Case in point, I don't believe that Sony's "8-packs" can be used legally without buying the package.

Generally, you can use any works you create with the loops you've purchased, but you cannot resell the loops themselves. Same concept as clipart libraries. Use 'em as a component in your work, but don't redistribute them.

I agree with Pedro that making quality music with loops is difficult, at best. But then, Pedro's music is extraordinarily good. =)

If your team and budget doesn't include a dedicated musician, Acid is one alternative. I've been using it to create ambient music for our prototype. I fully intend to replace those tracks once we can afford some real talent, but until then, they make adequate placeholders.
