Forum for tank pack owners?

Hi GG,
I'm a tank pack owner and have seen a lot of information about the tank pack scattered over different forum threads. To gather this information and possible future updates (*hint* *hint*) in one place it would maybe make sense to create an own forum for the tank pack owners.
It's really hard otherwise to find other tank pack owners and share code/ideas.

Yes, I know that there's a label somewhere telling it was tested with 1.3, but hey, that's a bad product support if it doesn't get updated to the actual versions. And yes, there is a thread telling how to manually update it. For me not a problem to follow the steps, but for others it might be a nightmare. (And not very convinient)
I just tested the manually updated tank pack with 1.4.2 on the Mac and have problems with the mouse and the turret and it would be nice to discuss this with others in a seperate forum. Well, let's see if GG jumps on and creates a forum for us. :-)

Right, there are some issues with the pack and I guess like me others have the same frustrations when I bought the pack, it was frustrating the very first moments as the stuff didn't work for the actual versions. I'd like to see this too, I've been looking for a 1.5 fix for about an hour now.

Same here! Finding info on tank pack is hell

Also would like to see a .blend file if someone wants to convert it.

Sounds like a good idea to make it's own forum. Also would like to see a .blend file if someone wants to convert it.

@Sage: I have it running with 1.5. I did some code changes. E-Mail me if you're interested. I have also now some basic AI Tank for the tank. With the class you can use the setMoveDestination() and the tank will drive to the point. Still working on it, but it already works. If there's interest, I could post it here.

Maybe you could post it again in the private forums?
Did you incorporate the 1.5 changes for TGE regarding lightning?

Jerry: Got the aiTank - the code was written in the GG mail notification about the new posts on this thread :-)Maybe you could post it again in the private forums?

At least the moderating shows that someone at GG saw this thread ;-)

I've brought up the idea to the appropriate folks. I don't make these types of decisions, so can only wait for information myself and I'll let you know.
In general, it's a hard decision as to when to add additional forums...much like our "script goes in public forums, code in private", even the audience wanting the private/specific area may or may not use it for what is appropriate, so it's hard to come up with a good policy for everything.

I do my best to keep track of pretty much every thread posted in the forums. Sometimes I miss some!I've brought up the idea to the appropriate folks. I don't make these types of decisions, so can only wait for information myself and I'll let you know.

Well, I hope we get a private forum for this stuff. I have a lot of code to post, but I want this to post only for tank pack owners as those are changes to the original code and I would like to show the changes along with the original code. Additionally, there's some nice addons like ai Tanks stuff from Jerry (I have also some stuff floating) which would perfectly fit into this forums :-)

I dont think we need any public forum to be honest - just a private one. Tons of info is floating around in various other forums, and it is very hard to find. Lack of "updates" to the newest versions of TGE and TGEA in it self is a huge issue for buyers.
Having it centralized would allow for much more development into the tanks with maybe less support mails to GG/ex-Bravetree guys = good thing.
@Martin - I would for one be ultra interested in sharing code snippets. We are going for a tank game soonish (already got a prototype), so doing a little swapping of info/code/experience could be fantastic.

AI tank movement video (MPEG)
What you see is an updated 1.5 compatible version of the tank shape with the LP shadows and also including the changes from Jerry. I'm still prototyping and I want to have first the tank AI going well before developing "the rest" :-)
Did I mention I would love to post my stuff in a private Tank pack owners forum? :-)
Thomas: If you like, we could exchange and discuss stuff by mail or so (until the forum is set up ;-)

@Thomas: Would be nice to exchange ideas/code/experiences! I'm working too on a tank combat game and am in the stage of prototyping. I just did some testing for more or less realistic cornering of the ai tanks. The video shows a tank moving randomly between the 4 yellow boxes:AI tank movement video (MPEG)

We have the complete Air Ace backend that we want to use for a tank game - actually 2. Cant talk to much in public about it yet, as we havent gotten farther than a simple prototype that works. No AI yet though. Will send you an email.
I've done a "complete" steering behaviour AI that currently works for ships (throttle+rudder controlled), and am in the process of porting it to be used by planes too.
Small video (actually I should do a blog soon about this) and some explanation:
airaceonline.arcadersplanet.com/viewtopic.php?t=244
Fighting some update priority issues on the ships at the moment, but will afterwards make a small movie about them too. They fully work, but network update priority settings in TGEA seem to be borked (or I use them wrong).

Can you expand on this, a little?
Other than that, I too hope for a tank pack forum. Great suggestion.

Short explaination: Torque has a way that you can set the network priority of your objects when being ghosted. I never knew it existed until today. But I think it has some bug in it. At least I'm seeing some ultra weird stuff in the engine that is directly related to this.
Check out getUpdatePriority() and its comments in the engine. Not going to post much here, as its a public forum.
@Martin - send an email + tried adding you in Skype+ICQ

Looking forward to that post of yours! I haven't had any issues with that stuff myself.
