Dummies Distort in MAX

I recently found the answer to a maddening problem, so I'm posting the information here for GGers:
If you use dummies for some of your animation (for Torque), eg. you link solid meshes or skinned meshes to a dummy for animation, you may have noticed that the further you turn a dummy the more the dummy (and the skin) distorts which wrecks it.
The answer I found, was to make sure that you NEVER scale a dummy except uniformly, i.e. make sure all dummies are exact cubes. I used to alter the shape and stretch them to facilitate skinning them later, but this causes the headache
Good Luck!
