These are just a few weapon sketches I did for fun.
I just thought I'd throw them up here so someone else might see them.

Any crits are most welcome.
Thanks,
Weston

Wicked nice detail, pal. So was this what you were talking about with the "drawing something thats mirrored across an axis of symmetry" post?

These are hella cool. I sure wish I could draw like this. Any plans to turn these into model textures?

@Adam,
Yeah, this is what spawned the question, but I find myself making mirrored stuff all the time.
@Kevin,
I just wanted to make some sketches, and hopefully land some concepting gigs down the road. I might turn them into models at some point.

Very Nice Concept Art work!! Concept art like this ^ makes it easy for a 3d-artist. Any front/back views? ;)

These aren't in-engine, but I set up the renderer to aproximate real-time...one light source etc.

I've been trying to track down the coolest real-time fantasy weapons around...I think Bethesda's Oblivion is the current title holder. If anyone has some other entries, I'd love to see them.
Any crits on these two are most welcome.

Knocked out two of them. 1500 polys each. Still on the last pass, but they're basically done.These aren't in-engine, but I set up the renderer to aproximate real-time...one light source etc.

I'm afraid there's no comparison between your 'low-poly' weapons and the ones in Oblivion. These weapons are incredible. I've never seen their equal in a game. It would be great to see them in TGEA.
By the way, if anyone ever offers to license them for 1/10 their value, run away . . . quick.
[Edit: reworded this thing several times, moved stuff around, etc.]

If I had only read your post and hadn't looked at the pics, I would have suggested Dark Messiah of M&M, The Witcher, or Soul of the Ultimate Nation. However, since I have seen the pics, I think your only competition would be from traditional media artisans (using real wood, steel, leather, etc.) like these guys . . . Wow - those are absolutely jaw-dropping. I would love to see them in action. Kork could use a new weapon you know....

Im interested in some technical details if you feel like giving them up. First, what res are you painting these at? Second, how much of the lighting is in the texture and how much of it is the render?

Beautiful work, per usual, sir. And interesting way of presenting it. I always try and go for some kind of assymetrical composition, but the "shiney weapons flipped 180 degrees on black" is really doing it for me. Marvelous.Im interested in some technical details if you feel like giving them up. First, what res are you painting these at? Thanks for the comments, and the list...very helpful.
As for licensing, there are really only two ways to make money off game art (that I'm aware of).
You can either sell the rights to it, or you can license the rights. But if you can think of another way...let me know!
@Andy, Tim,
Thanks for the comments, but Kork has the sweetest weapon of all time! That crosbow is without equal, I could never top it!
@Adam,
The textures on both weapons are 512x512...the sword has an additional blade texture. On the lighting; I'd say almost all of the lighting is in the cube map. The lighting on the wood handle is all light source. There isn't really any lighting burned into the diffuse maps.

question... do you use your sketches as one of the texture components...
the detailing in the handles is impressive...

Excellent work! Those sketches are the best I have seen in a very long time. Great Renders too. Keep up the good work, DL out.
