1st edition or second edition or TGE 1.5

Hi all,

Just wondering. I have the 1st edition of 3DGPAI1 and was wondering if I should go with the second edition. The first edition as many of you know had a considerable amount of mistakes, are these corrected with the second edition, as I have worked and reworked chapters 4 & 5 many times in the first edition. Is the second edition plagued with alot of coding mistakes, or on the inetrim should I just invest the fifty dollars in getting the TGE 1.5

Well, I had the 1st edition and decided to get the 2nd edition. The 2nd edition is much better. First of all it is about twice as thick, and although I have PaintShop Pro for texturing he uses Gimp 2 now which is great because its free. There is also a Constructor Demo on the CD so he has replaced the Quark chapter with the Constructor chapter, but the Quark chapter is included on the CD. The chapters on TorqueScript have been expanded (I believe...I just skimmed through those because I wanted to see what had changed on the art side of it).

But the main reason I bought the 2nd ed. was because I wanted to get the most up-to-date resources for TGE 1.4. Although it's too bad that it doesn't cover TGE 1.5 more but the book was done before 1.5 was even out.

So is everything covered in the 1st ed covered in the 2nd ed or is the 1st ed still going to be usefull after getting the 2nd ed.?

I believe the second edition should really be considered "part two".
it assumes you've understood the first one.

Ok so the second ed is more of a continuanceand then the advanced after that.

The second edition covers everything the first edition covers except that the texturing section uses Gimp 2 instead of Paintshop Pro and the chapter on QuArK (although that chapter is included on the CD) is replaced with the chapter on using Constructor as well as some other additions. The first edition covers TGE 1.3 where the 2nd edition covers 1.4.

The second edition is not a continuance.

No problem. It can get confusing with 1st vs 2nd ed. and 3DGPA1 vs Advanced 3DGPA1. Wait until the next book: Maximum Torque: The Ultimate Guide to Game Scripting by Ken Finney. Its due out June 30, 2007. Then lets see how many people get confused. ;)

OK thanks I just went ahead and order the second ed. and the advanced book as a package so I will have them all to learn from and reference. This way I will have a bit more up to date information also
