Install broken on 64 bit windows
by John Quigley · in Torque X 2D · 12/11/2006 (9:49 pm) · 5 replies
It appears that 64 bit windows inserts a "Wow6432Node" in its registry path for 32 bit applications. That breaks all of our registry queries.
We hope to have a build that addresses this tomorrow.

My general rule of thumb when it comes to new MS OS's, is to wait until the first service pack is out ;).

Vista is a complete rewrite of the OS, so don't compare win xp 64 to vista at all. win xp 64 blew chunks, so i dropped it long ago. vista, from the little time i've had with it, is pretty amazing, but has some kinks to work out.My general rule of thumb when it comes to new MS OS's, is to wait until the first service pack is out ;).

x64 only really sucked because of the support, under the hood it's a much better system. The fact it's a lot more different than you'd expect (it's more desktop 2003 than a XP upgrade), doesn't help much.
But good rule of thumb, i'm not jumping on Vista's band wagon any time soon. Well maybe once there's some good DX10 games :)

Vista is much further away from a "complete" rewrite than the PR peps would like you to believe. The reason I mentioned it, is the reason this fails on x64 is because of the way the registry changed. A rather similar change occurs in Vista.x64 only really sucked because of the support, under the hood it's a much better system. The fact it's a lot more different than you'd expect (it's more desktop 2003 than a XP upgrade), doesn't help much.

We have uploaded the new build that fixes this. The only change was to fix the 64 bit windows install, so if you aren't running 64 bit windows, there is no point in downloading the new build.

@John - Can you update the CLOSED beta build? It's still 1.0.1.1 (open is at 1.0.1.2) Thanks!

By extension it tends to mean Windows 2003 and Vista will fail in similar ways, but I doubt they're "supported" systems either.
