Torque Game Builder and Demo Help

by Richie · in General Discussion · 11/21/2006 (1:46 pm) · 11 replies

Your Torque Game Builder Demo does not work. I have downloaded and reinstalled it many times. I meet all the requirements. Also does Torque Game Builder require Torque Game Engine? Also if I buy Torque Game Builder am I buying the License and the software? If can't get the demo to work, how will I know this product works.
Somebody who knows these answers please reply.

When you start TGB, it creates a console.log file. You should be seeing errors as to why it is not loading. Have you updated the drivers on your graphics card? Sometimes older drivers will have problems being recognized correctly.

TGB and TGE are two separate products.

If you purchase a license for TGB, you can use it to create commercial and non-commercial games as per the EULA for the version you purchase. You get access to the software and are licensed to use it.

No, it doesn't. They're seperate but related. Like non-identical twins, except one lost a dimension during birth.

I don't know what you mean by either of those terms. You get the tools (LevelBuilder, Asset Importers, etc.) that interface with the engine (Torque 2D), which you can buy the source for if you want.

And the demo should work ;)
What happens when you try to use it?

I can easily run the program if it would work. I have almost a Gig of RAM, Nvidia GeForce 6600 250MB/DDR, Windows XP, Direct X 9c, etc..
After I download the Demo I install it, then nothing happens, there is no Icon to click, nothing. The only thing I can do is uninstall it.

It did not create a Start Menu group? Strange.

Nope it did not create a Start Menu group either. It makes a folder, but nothing is in it lol. If I buy the product I hope it will not mess up. I also plan on buying the Adventure Kit if I buy the Torque Game Builder. What is suppose to happen when you install the Torque Game Builder, or the Torque Game Builder Demo?

Well, it creates a start menu group with the application and documentation. I'm not sure why it's not. I haven't tried the demo version, but is your installer or firewall doing anything?

My installer in fine, I have download other stuff and install with it. My firewall is not doing anything, my firewall does not interfere when installing something. I think I might just go ahead and buy the The Torque Game Builder and the Adventure Kit. Thanks for the help.

Also what does Torque Game Builder "Binary ONLY version" mean? Do I just get ones and zeros, or the actual software? Here is the link www.garagegames.com/products/96/

It means that you do not get the c++ source to the engine. You can create a complete game using the tools and torquescript.

edit: with the binary license.

Don't let 'em pull one over on you -- they have a version with ones and zeros *and* a couple twos thrown in. That's *the* best one to get. Binary is for noobs only but you don't get the good stuff unless you specifically ask for the version with twos.

I hope that helps.
