Pretty much sums it up. Anyone else having problems on an intel machine?

Taken from this posting by Dave @ 21-6:
Quote:Orbz is a very old game, and is not compatible with IntelMacs. There are no plans to update the game client to be compabitly with these. However, if you are acquiring an IntelMac, you can still dual-boot with Windows and play the Windows build of Orbz which should work just fine.

What about a non-intel Mac, like a G5 but with newer OS? Same problem, it crashes right at startup after splash screen.

OpenAL seems to cause a lot of troubles from what I've seen with each Mac upgrade & TGE games. You could take a look at this post over at Orbzonline.com. If that doesn't help, post a message in that forum & more Mac users who have Orbz will see it as opposed to this forum here.

Got it working, thanks!! I installed the OpenAL and then followed these instructions for disabling it and it worked. Now, I don't know what else exactly I disabled, but I did get Orbz working again, thanks - Maurice

Dave,
That link that you gave to the garage games thread in your last post is the fix!

There is a guy on that thread (James) that provides the instructions for the fix. I will post it here for those who are having the same trouble I was.

1. Go to your Utilities folder which should be in your Applications folder.

2. Open the "Terminal" Utility

3. It will open and there will be a window that will be titled Terminal - bash, and there will be some text that says welcome to Darwin!, etc.
Simply type in the following line (paying attention to capitals and the space after cd):
cd /System/Library/Frameworks/

4. Hit Return. This gets you into the correct location for the 2nd step, which is to type the next line exactly as shown (it may be easier to cut and paste from here):
sudo mv OpenAL.framework OpenAL.disabled

5. Hit Return and you'll see some friendly advice pop up, but you can ignore the text and move on.

6. enter your administrative password. You won't be able to see it being typed, but enter it and then hit return anyway. If you don't know your admin password then check out the instructions on the garage games thread to find them out, or simply ask the administator of the computer you are using.

7. That's it! Magically, Orbz will work after that!

Dave, I think there were a number of people on the garage games thread that couldn't get it to work. I am pretty sure it was because they weren't typing in those lines properly, i.e. paying attention to capitals and in particular the space after "cd". I couldn't log on there to post a comment - i couldn't remember my password for that forum - so perhaps you could mention that it worked for me but i got hung up on the space after "cd" for a bit.

Thanks for your help.
