Dear All,

I want to build a flying dragon object.
I can't find a starting point. Please advise.
Thanks.

Hi Simon. First of all - posting the same message in multiple forums is BAD, so stop it :)

Start off with a drawing - either your own or take inspiration from someone else.

Start modeling. There are numerous tutorials out there on how to approach 3D modeling. None involve a Dragon that I remember but the prinicples are the same.

Build it, post here for feedback and suggestions.

When you get to the point where you need to texture it. Ask for help then.

Animating? When you're ready to animate it, then ask for help.

The key is just get stuck in. The only way to learn is to just start going it and don't give up. It gets better and easier (sort of) as you gain practical knowledge.

Keep us posted and Good Luck :)

Yes always better to start off with concept sketches and doign as much research as you can on the object you are looking to model, just search google and google images, go to the comic book store look for comics with dragons in for inspiration.

rent some movies from the movie store, look at films such as reign of fire, dragon heart etc.
i've always foudn with 3d modelling if you do the research and thought before hand, the actual modelling part is easier and more enjoyable.

I actually did one of these. I was using milkshape and had a hard time getting the wing transparencies to work. This was a weekend project last year to test the engine. The dragon has animations for jumping, flying and gliding. I got multiplayer going so you could fly around and shoot fireballs.

Not very good... but decent for proof of engine feasability.

If you want you can also use this for concept (I have a thing for dragons, can you tell?)

Good luck, TM!
