Torque DTS Plus MilkShape Exporter Welds and Smoothing Groups

by BrokeAss Games · in Torque Game Engine · 11/10/2006 (2:28 pm) · 4 replies

When I export with the Torque DTS Plus MilkShape plug-in it undoes my welds (smoothing groups too?).
This doesn't happen with the old Torque Game Engine DTS plug-in.
Is there any way to prevent this or is it a bug in the exporter?

*Rex you around? I need your help again man.

Rex is still here, less generous with his unappreciated 'helping' of others here at the GG boards, cepting friends of RHI...I help with many art issues, while my scripting and engine questions go unanswered...b'ah. The 'Indy' spirit hard at work...lol.

This issue seems to happen at will on the Milkfarm and nobody there seems to have answers[I've asked pretty straitforward animation/rotation questions that remain silent...]. I thought this to have something to do from the TriStripping added some time ago to DTSPlus!, but Chris assured me it wasn't. Using Plugins seems to bring it forward, and I think it's perhaps in the way the geometry is decomposed in the crossplatform readings...?!? IE, the shape has to be broken down into it's basic components and then reassembled and it's not being rewelded...my final thoughts on the matter. Code sniffing will be needed by appropriately trained personel.

I am starting to think it may have to do with the UV's not being welded also, as the seams appear to be along smoothing or UV grouping sections[verts separated by UV space while sharing World Space Coordinates....]. I first noticed this with the "Jill" character Pack I purchased; I could never get the seams to disappear. They appear along her mapping lines.

If you send me a simple model with instructions to reproduce the behaviour I will take a look and see what the problem is. Other than creating the Root bone and Bounds mesh, the exporter should not change the milkshape model at all.

5 years later and this is still the case.

Try this: uncheck the auto smoothing feature in Ms3d before you export...then report back!
