Can any of the great artists out here in the community help RATT? I can help people that need to improve their design or producer skills, but I don't know how to help somebody improve their art skills. Any suggestions?

I'm sorry, but your art skills will need to be improved considerably before your conceptual art can make it into Realm Wars. This is difficult for me to say because a community project should be a learning experience for its members. In this case, the learning experience is that you need to work on your skills if you want to become a game artist. Can any of the great artists out here in the community help RATT? I will take a stab at this one Jeff . . .
As a former commercial artist I can give you some tips and hints.
I think what everyone is trying to say in the most POLITE way possible is that your "concept art" are just sketchs lack a certain finish, they don't look "complete" or "finished".
They look like you have made great efforts, just take them a few steps farther.
Concept art is intended as a communication mechanism for the artists to communicate what they characters / items need to embody [ bunch of touchy feely stuff ].
Many times doing concept art is like being a police sketch artist, someone that CANT render the image tells someone who has the skill to render the ideas on paper what they want to see and the artist tries to show them what they have in there head.
Sometimes the concept art and the concept come from the same person [ harder ].
Concept art is not intended to be copied verbatim usually, but to give the next set of artists a reference to refine and a direction to go in.
Concept art RARELY makes into a game / movie exactly like it was conceived for many reasons. See the links below and then look a the final games, you will find more similarities to the concept art than exact renditions in the final artwork for the games.
Commercial concept art is usually in color [ color pencils, watercolors, or those hideouosly expensive pantone markers :( ] but not always, and has many different poses, and angles from which the items/characters are rendered, and doing various tasks.
I even did some leg work for you, to get you started on what people are expecting. You can do even more by searching Google for "concept art" and put it in double quotes.
Notice that all the advanced "character studies" are in color with the intial sketches in b/w.

another thing you can do is go to a dollar / used book store and buy some of the Art of ??? books ( the star wars / star trek ) ones are great so are the ones for animated movies or ones with lots of special effects.
You will see the sketches and paintings and most of them were DRASTICALY changed for the finished products.
Good Luck, and search the web like I suggested to get an idea of what is expected.

If you are passionate about art and want to improve your work, then I recommend taking some art classes from a very serious teacher. There is a lot to learn about what makes good art, even a "natural" artist can still learn a lot from the right instructor. Also don't think you can't improve because with some slight adjustments your stuff could be so much better, there is always room for improvement.
The Beast drawing is kinda good but it would have been so much better if you would have given it a more natural pose and maybe a bit more body. Don't give up that easy...

Also work on your proportions, try to get a book on human anotomy and make sure you know the basic rules. From there you can push design and proportions to something that looks a bit cooler than just an odinary human body. Also don't think you can't improve because with some slight adjustments your stuff could be so much better, there is always room for improvement.

Ratt use your imagination man, there are lots of things you could make, you could do an Orc wizard, a human knight an elf warrior, you could design weapons: swords, sheilds, bows... You could do what ever you want don't wait for some one else to tell you what to do just do it and try to do it as good as possible.

and what I can't understand is you can make something like this:
www.rustycode.com/hosted-art/ratt/repbeast.jpg
but when you make something for realm wars it turns out to be something like this:
www.rustycode.com/hosted-art/ratt/orcish_tree%20fort.jpg
no need to point out the difference in quality...
The first one could use some work too offcourse, specially colouring. Do you know how to colour in a drawing with photoshop or illustrator? I can colour in drawings like that in about 30 minutes (rough colouring job), its really handy if you know these things, learn them... there are lots of great tutorials on the net.

I'd say try photoshop or illustrator (I prefer photoshop for realistic results, illustrator for a more cartoony look)... can't provide a link to those or i'd be promoting warez, and we don't want to do that

Prismacolors for coloring!

Where is it?
Edit:
Ok, Ive looked at your posts and found it.
I dont know you need to hone your skills some more I think.
the Dragon was pretty cool point to start from.
but even long before this can be used the design needs to be finished.
So do you have any modeling practice in?
or do you just do concept art?
1) if your strictly a concept artist...
you'll need to work on your skills in getting your idea across.
2) if you have any modeling practice in maybe lets see that.
