Problem with maya2dts and maya8

by Joseph *Nailo* Rick · in Torque Game Engine · 11/03/2006 (1:37 pm) · 2 replies

I've tried to install the maya2dts tool for maya 8 and I've run into a problem.

I've installed the .mel script into the user folder and it works fine when I run dtsUtility; I get the window to pup up and all that seems to work fine.

The problem I have is figuring out how to get the .mll to work. I do not have a plug-in directory in my user files and when I place it in the bin/plug-in directory in the main maya folders it shows in the plug-in manager but will not load. Every time I try to load it I recieve a message "error: operation completed successfuly". When I open up a new project I do not have the DTS or DSQ export options. I tried to use the tool anyhow and even after renaming it to test.dts it still exported as a .mb

Could someone please tell me what I've done wrong?

Also is there any other way I can export to .dts from maya 8?

There's no trick to this. You just need to place that the maya2dts exporter here...C:\Program Files\Alias\Maya8.0\bin\plug-ins. If it doesn't load I can only assume the version of the mll is not compiled for your version of maya.

This is a long time past, but I just recieved an email from someone asking me how I fixed my Maya2DTS problem so I figured I'd post the solution here.

I did find a solution to the problem, mine was 2 fold. First make sure the version of maya2dts you download is the correct one (I was trying to install the v7.0 not the v8). Second, I have my computer set up with 2 hdds, which means the program file is in one drive, but the main information from Maya is on the other. When you install the .mll file it will go into the main application's folder C:\Program Files\Alias\Maya8.5\bin\plug-ins *for me it was F:\... due to the hdd set up*

the plugin appear in the plugins manager but did not want to load , is there version of the exporter for maya 8.x

Ok try these links:

For 32bit OS www.fluidimages.com/Portals/0/NTForums_Attach/Maya2DTS_Maya_8_5x32.zip

For 64bit OS www.fluidimages.com/Portals/0/NTForums_Attach/Maya2DTS_Maya_8_0x64.zip

Now the 32bit one is for Maya 8.5, and the 64bit one I believe is for Maya 8.0. Don't quote me on this but I believe I'm right.

do I have to use the old dtsutilities from garagegames with this tool ?

You should be able to just remove the older version of maya2dts, install this version and go with it.
