Waterblock problems

In the resource Better Fluid Rendering it states that the code can make it so that when an object collides with the water the water will ripple, and it will also do so when it rains and such. elsewhere in the resource it says that it was superceeded by the Fluid Development, and Fluid development says that it has all the functionality of the first resource and more, further down the page it states that it was incorporated into the game engine in 2003. This also means that the water should ripple when the player collides with it, but it doesn't in starter FPS, and i can't get it to do it at all.

what's going on?
