Neew a program

by Andreas Bergstr · in General Discussion · 05/13/2002 (9:10 am) · 7 replies

I'm currectly writing down everything about a mod I'm about to start the development of. But it is hard to maintain all lines of text in notepad files...

I'm planning to make a complete listing in Word but that sucks to. Do anyone know any good program to keep all game information text. Not the source-code. Only the text witch will inform my upcoming team on how I want the game to look(of course they will come with their suggestions)?

err, BurningRose, everything okay with you???
First of all, his english isn't that bad (besides the misspelled subject), so I really don't get your point here... and second, he doesn't ask for a *programmer*, but for a PROGRAM to organize his text files /design document or whatever...
Jesus Christ... calm down man, and read the post before complainin'!
@Andreas: why don't you build a small website for it, you could protect it and only allow access for your team members... you could use PHPNuke/PostNuke or whatever, or simply a "plain" HTML website with htaccess protection or something...

Andreas,

What issue(s) are you having with using MS Word or another Document Program like that?

I have read several Game Design Document guide lines, each of which were created in MS Word.

MS Word has a great number of features that can help you organize your document, like TOC (Table of Contents), Footnotes, Headers, Footers, indexing etc..

er, sorry about that, to be honest I really didnt understood what you were saying(his english is not bad, is me who got confused I thought you were looking a programmer) until now.

Well I think the best tool you can find for that is ms project, it wont only help you keep your project tasks it will also help you stablish deadlines for each.

However if you dont want to keep deadlines, and you just want to keep your guys informed, you can use a website (php based) website made with php nuke per example and post them there, regular email works too! just keep track of your inbox, and do not delete it, and you will have dbase of sorts of all your tasks. Also if you and your team have office 2000, outlook is great for sending tasks via email to your companions, you can also calendarize online meetings, keep journals and a lot of cool stuff to keep your team organized as well.

May the torque be with you...

Word or equivilant programs is the best you're going to find.

Just make sure to come up with a way to format your notes so you can actually look back and understand them.

Ok thanks for the answers. I'll check out PHPnuke or just continue using MS Word. MS Project is to advanced I only need a small application. Well anyway thanks.

@andreas: i'd try postnuke. it is more secure and has more features than phpnuke, like user-groups and stuff.
