Editor crashes while lighting o_O

Hi,
I've got a pretty strange problem with my editor.
I want to have a map at the evening with a nice red sky and the sun should be close to the ground. The color etc works well, but when I want to change the direction of the sun I've got 2 big problems :(
1st Problem:
Example: When I type in "0.133482 0.51889 -0.898172" as value for the sun- direction and want to apply the new settings, the editor automatically changes the values to "0.127632 0.496148 -0.858806".
2nd Problem:
Example: I want to give a value like "0.108346 0.675846 -0.729036" as sun- direction. When I apply the new setting, of course, first the editor changes the value to something different, then - when I want to relight the map - the whole editor crashes!
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong, or are there any different settings I have to apply for the editor, so it works correctly?
Please help me

but as you said: when i go over the value 0.x 0.4 0.8
the editor crashes. when i take smaller values than 0.4 the shadows that are casted look as if it was afternoon.
so i guess i'll just have to try some more values...

www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=resource&page=view&qid=2565 It has a sun vector calculator for altitude and azimuth; the output is in "pre-normalized" xyz for the editor.
Second, their are a few sun positions that will cause a crash; particularly when the vector components are too close to the major axes. Can you try to position it a bit farther off the major axis?
