Luke, making games isn't easy! My advice to you would be start slow, don't try to make the next halo, and most importantly have fun!! Try starting with an engine that doesn't require and programming, such as GameMaker. www.gamemaker.nl/ Good luck and have fun!

Do you even have TBG?
and i know its not easy when i play the scroller demo i make a new level and when i play my new level the game crashes when i press space.
and i need to know hot to make my own player from the image library.

You don't have that big red button that says "Make My Game!" in your version? ;)

Seriously though, have you been through the tutorials, they should cover all that kind of stuff.

Start with the Whack-a-mole tutorial. It will help you figure out the basics of getting images and actions working in TGB. Then you can move up from there. It can be difficult figuring out which tutorial to start with, but I'd recommend WaM as a good starting point.

Luke, I get a sense of hostility from you...
Try looking through some of the scripts to one of the games included with TGB, change stuff, see what it does, try to go through the documentation, if you dont understand something, go on the IRC channel and ask abou it (You will most likely get faster replies than on the forums)

@Philip, I think the pakcage game button should be changed to the "Make My Game!" button :)

I read the Game Maker license agreement. It says you do not have the right to publish your own games.
Do not get it. If you want to make a game it will take atleast 6 months of learning some programming and 3d packages. I would get TGE, because its not that hard to learn. I could suggest some books that will help the process go faster if decide on this route.

Luke GG also has a book on the engine, when I started I had a hard time with the documentation. I bought the book: The Game Programmer's Guide to Torque. This book will help you a great deal. Their isn't a good game that is just thrown to gether. Keep this in mind.

Morrie, I'm not sure where you are getting the idea that you cannot distribute games made with GameMaker. They are upfront about being able to publish or distribute games (even with the free version) in any way you want.

From the EULA:
Quote:Games you create with the Software you can use in any way you like. No licence fee is required. You are allowed to sell the games if you own the right of all the resources used in the game.

The full responsibility and liability for the games created with the Software rests solely with the creator of the game and not with the author of the Software.

Stand-alone versions of games created with the Software can be distributed without any licensing fees. You are however not allowed to reverse engineer or decompile these executable.

The first paragraph lets you know that you can distribute your games any way you want. The second one lets you know that if you use ripped sprites/music/etc and have repercussions, you are liable, not Mark Overmyer. The third doesn't allow you to reverse engineer the created EXE's for your own purposes since it includes engine details.

You are not allowed to redistribute the engine, pieces of the engine, etc. Which is probably where you were confused.

Morrie I am not sure where you get your information. This is straight from the license.

Games you create with the Software you can use in any way you like. No licence fee is required. You are allowed to sell the games if you own the right of all the resources used in the game.
The full responsibility and liability for the games created with the Software rests solely with the creator of the game and not with the author of the Software.

This from front page of there website

What is best, is the fact that Game Maker can be used free of charge.
You can do anything you want with the games you produce, you can even sell them! Also, if you register your copy of Game Maker, you can unlock extra functions, which extend the capabilities of the program. Game Maker comes preloaded with a collection of freeware images and sounds to get you started.

Luke, you can't just try to make AAA games. Game making takes time and years of learning. People spend years just learning to how to program. Start with something like Game Maker or RPG Maker. Then move up and try something like DarkBasic. When you're ready try something else such as TGB.

Also, you could be a bit more clear on what you don't understand. Saying "I don't understand the documentation" is rather vague.

Keep up the good work. When start with TGB if you run into problems dont panic just ask questions on form or irc but give details and people will help you.

I don't that sort of comment is really necessary. Maybe he's being a little bit high maintenance, but no one is making your read his threads. He appears to be making an effort and I don't think he should be discouraged.
