So is Legions going to be a real game made by GG? I found this site interesting.

Sorry I had the wrong link in. It appears that the site was taken down because of my post. :(

I think that this may mean something. ;) Can't wait.

Google cache has two broken pictures, a "copyright garagegames 06" sign, and some vaguely medival looking background.

It also had a big Legions symbol across the top of the page.

edit: It's back up now!

Lol, I tried to play Tribes 2 yesterday, but it was like a ghost town. Man, I even got ISDN and a router just so me and my cousin could jump online and play that game. its kinda sad that its been mostly forgotten, and strange that there are still so many empty servers online with bots running around capturing each others flags and shooting each other.

Makes you think about evolving AI, and suppose they started becoming self aware...... There's a new tribe in town, and it aint friendly..... :-)

edit: spelling..... my bad.

I hope that they make this game. The more I think about it, the more I feel that it will help GG and the community as a whole. It will give the sense to the TSE licensee that I am part of something bigger. It would be a huge motivating factor to get something done. This would all be furthered if Legions was on the XBOX 360. I wish GG the best of luck on this project (if they are undertaking it).

Dang, that's a nice teaser site. I love/hate the pro's in this industry because they always give me something to shoot for, but they're always better than me. :)

Whatever happened to including the Legions demo with TSE? Another empty promise...

When did GG Promise that?

Besides, they never promised you anything. You don't even own TSE

The site has fancy intro music now too :-)

Which I think is really quite good, reminds me of "Blade Runner" music by Vangelis.

I think one of the reasons GG hasen't released the Legions demo is because it's over 4GB of files which I guess would kill the server with everyone downloading it...

I don't own TAT so I don't know how things work. Out of sheer curiosity, what on earth is taking up 4GB of space? Have GG crammed in a lot of content (maybe a large number of high res textures, large audio files) or is atlas terrain the cultprit? I'm thinking the latter as the last demo video I saw didn't show a lot of content. Just a really big terrain with some water and a few interiors scattered around the place.

The terrain data is what takes up that much space. Keep in mind, this is a densely detailed terrain with slightly older tech.

That's exactly what Bittorrent is for. Still 4G for a demo is kinda hefty!

I was under the impression GG planned to release Legions with Torque AT v1.0 as a new "starter.fps", and have "the community" work on it to make it more of a complete game. Torque AT is still in Early Adopter, so I wouldn't have expected to get Legions yet.

Older Atlas builds had huge data files. Newer ones I believe use much more compressed data.

And, of course, P2P filesharing networks are excellent for distributing large files to large numbers of people - pirates do it for free over residential Internet - and with BT one can still monitor who is leaching it, and restrict access if needed. BitTorrent pwns.

Same here i was under the same impression. You know what they say dont blindly follow unless you plan on running into wall.

So, getting back to the 4GB terrain. What's making it so large? A whole heap of textures, heightmaps, some other data? Is it something to be concerned about? How big is Legions going to end up once all other content is in there?

@Tim - Well the Legions demo isn't how you would go about creating a game where you would have lots of levels. The terrain in there uses a unique texture for each bit of ground... that's a huge amount of texture data. Since there the blender has been added into Atlas and i'm sure most multi-level games will use that instead of unique surfaces.
