It doesnt really show a great deal of financing or business setup on your part?
Maybe post the Investment groups website for people to checkout? Is there one?
More openness about the true nature of your business and what finances you have available would get alot more response I believe.

This is a new organization with experienced members from different business backgrounds. No web site yet, but plenty of capital to work with. That is the important thing. Without it you will be own the slow boat. The corporation is Geek Media LLC. Florida corporation info is located at www.sunbiz.org. You will find other corporations that the members own. I hope by now it might be apparent that we are serious about purchasing a game to market or willing to work with the right team to promote and market their game. If by chance anyone who is interested in putting a team together in Tampa and would like We have lots of computers and office space available to use.

I am honestly trying to help you. First and foremost, spelling errors are unprofessional. Grammatical errors are unprofessional.

There are other errors, but you get my point. You will get better responses if you hire a professional editor.
Good luck to you.

Sounds like a load to me. And I've not even been in this field long enough to be as cynical as some of the rest of the folks around here.

I hope you realize it is not very professional to be condescending of others. When all you have in your arsenal for justification is a lack of spell checking on my part. The flamming that goes on should not be allowed it distracts from the real purpose of the post. That being to find a game to buy.

Do you have any references? A game plan? Or just hoping to buy one already made (which is probably unlikely)?
09/21/2006 (7:54 pm)
Ronald, I'm not sure what to suggest to you. Some of us have gotten burned by projects that seemed really good and on the "up-and-up", but then there are also very legitimate offers out there. It's too bad there's no bonding service out there (or something like it) which might help things a bit.Do you have any references? A game plan? Or just hoping to buy one already made (which is probably unlikely)?

This would allow the developing group to focus on updates, expansion, and new games.
Numbers like a 10 to 1 return on ads. Say you spend $100,000 a month on advertising. You make back $1,000,000. I think that would be plenty to go around. I must say it is a lot more complicated than that. I am just trying to use simplified examples.

I think buying a finished product is probably unlikely. I am hoping to find something 80% completed. But I certainly would not expect anything without a contract. My ideal situation would be to find a game and contract with the developing group for us to handle all commercial asspects. That being advertising, payperclick ads, print ads, SEO, website management, paid search engine rankings and etc. All these things cost quite a bit of change. Done properly you can take a sorry game and make it out produce a great game that is lacking this jumpstart approach. If you have a good game the revenue numbers I could quote to you are UNREAL.This would allow the developing group to focus on updates, expansion, and new games.

Again, I'm trying to help you. I apologize if it sounded condescending, but you simply cannot afford to appear sloppy. If you want to be a professional, you have to be professional at all times.
Your first post should have listed a business plan. It does not have to be a 30 year forecast, but a description of your short-term, mid-range, and long-term goals, as well as any steps you've already taken, would certainly give your post more credibility.
A website is mandatory for any legitimate company these days. It is inexpensive to set one up and maintain. You said your corporation has "plenty of capital to work with". A website should be high on your priority list.
And to show that you've done your homework, you should give details on how you will handle the advertising/marketing. Your sep 22, 2006 post was better. You describe the commercial aspects (advertising, etc.) If you had given more details early on, you would have had more positive responses.
You have to realize one thing. While this is an informal group of hobbyists, the experts here are truly experts. But everyone is still very cynical. The reason is that every 14 year old with an idea places posts about how they are creating the next greatest Half-Life. They call themselves a corporation and talk about how they're going to make millions of dollars, all they need is a couple programmers, artists, musicians, writers, etc.
We hear it all the time. No offense intended to any legitimate 14 year olds working on the next greatest Half-Life :) But until there is an actual plan in place and work being done, an idea is just an idea.
Again, I am not being condescending, or flaming you. I am trying to help. You are a businessman. You've taken business courses in high-school/college. You know how to write a business letter. Follow the same rules you would if writing to Microsoft or Apple. And don't ever give up just people someone gives you a bad review.
I wish you all the best in your endeavors.

I am confused by what you want. This is my current understanding of what you want. Correct me if I am wrong:
1 - You want to buy the IP (thats the rights) for a complete or mostly complete RPG.
2 - You then want the team who sold you the rights to their game to stay on your bank roll because:
I thought you were purchasing the IP (game, source, ect) and then the developers walked away and your company ran with it, but your later posts seem like you want to hire the team or you want a team to hire you for:
Like I said I am confused and would like some clarification.

There are reasons for not presenting the business model in great detail. All statements up to this point are just suggestive ideas in the direction towards a contractual agreement for the marketing of a game or purchase.
We supply all the funding. The developer makes money with no out of pocket cost.
This forum is very helpful. Thanks

for instance, you talk about "buying" someones game. this is very vague. this could mean you pay a dev group a lump sum for the game rights, then market and sell the game yourself. this could also mean youre acquiring the game rights and then market and sell the game giving the devs royalties. this could mean a bit of both. and uh, this could also mean youre just buying the game without the rights so you can play it. :)
I think youre main point is that you have funds which can be used for indie game development and I'm sure many people here would be very interested in the details of the services you offer. the main point of ambiguity is with regard to the game rights. most people here would appreciate the funding for a project but maybe not at the expense of losing control over it.

Ronald, I think one of the main reasons for the negative feedback is that youre making offers which sound somewhat unorthodox. for instance, you talk about "buying" someones game. this is very vague. this could mean you pay a dev group a lump sum for the game rights, then market and sell the game yourself. this could also mean youre acquiring the game rights and then market and sell the game giving the devs royalties. this could mean a bit of both. and uh, this could also mean youre just buying the game without the rights so you can play it. :)

Good point I think you understand our position. We are looking to work with a group. The terms are very negotiable, that is why I have mentioned different possiblities. We are flexible. I think that will lead to more groups talking to us.
I do appreciate the attention this post is getting positive or negative. I am getting good feedback and offers thru email. Thanks

I hate to sound cynical, but these situations pop up all the time.
