I am just curious to know how 3ds max maya and lightwave line up whats the pros and cons other that price lol. I currently use milk shape and am thinking about moving up to light wave since it seems to be more affordable. I just wanted and opinion on this.

Download the demos of different packages and try them. Then buy the one that has a workflow that works with you. Most of the features that one or the other does better are features that 1) you will use rarely or 2) not useful for game development but may very well be with CG dev. All of them can be as good or bad as you choose, as long as you put a good or bad artist at the helm. Try them and buy the one that fits you.

The other packages are much more expensive. I think lightwave is easier to learn cause theres no silly icons to figure out. everything is text. I dislike max so much because it's so difficult for me to do very simple things.

I figured this is as good a place as any to ask, I just downloaded Lightwave discovery edition (I'm thinking of changing packages), I love it so far but is there any way to turn on gyroscopic correction in the viewport? It's been bugging me for days now.Thanks.

Mincetro,
Where did you go to get the discovery/demo version of Lightwave? There's absolutely no mention on newtek's site. Kinda silly.

One of the 3d schools around here had an open day a couple of years back and they had Lightwave 7 "discovery edition" CD's (they were teaching Lightwave at the time, don't know if they still are). I just found it in my CD drawer after about two years of neglect.

Look at the price for ZBrush. That is pretty good too.

When you orbit the Lightwave viewport it rotates on it's side aswell, Its kind of hard for me to describe.
It feels like it rotates the camera on three axis rather than two.

LightWave is a very powerful program. This means there are very few things LightWave can't do, however it also means it can be hard to figure out.
Good Luck and Happy Hunting. :-)
