New idea for a torque game

the conflict zone.
Im not sure if this is a new idea
but here goes anyway.
My idea is to bring torque to the mainstream
by showing the possibilities of its engine design
Inspired on movies like "Black Hawk Down"
and "behind enemy lines", my idea is to create
a war game as realistic as posible.
The objective of the game just like
in the spirit of this movies will be to show
the cruelty and horror of being in the middle
of a war, with is moments of true heroism
,tragedy and courage.
It wont be a quake/tribes clone it will be more
of a simulation, nobody will win, you just
acomplish your objectives and come out alive
or you dont.
During the game you will be sent to
several missions (some of them will be
real suicide missions) attack opositor forces,
defend a post, rescue your fallen team mates
in a city under siege etc.
In addition you will also have the choice to
play a civilian in order to relive the moments
of anguish of trying to survive a cross fire
without any weapons/training or objective
but surviving.
Whenever you get killed (which will be treated
as realistically as possible)
you will go to spectator mode (for a while or
during the rest of the fray acording your settings)
and spectator mode will look and sound
like a TV broadcasting (like those you watch on cnn)
(reporter mode? hmm)
Additionaly one of the players could be choosen
"commander" the commander or intelligence forces
cant go to battle, but they can watch via satellite
or cameras the entire battle from an sky view
and command their forces to safety/death or victory.
Features of the conflict zone:
*Bots playing civilians, rebel forces,
enemies, etc. (there will always be
someone to fire you when less expected)
*Several vehicles like choppers,
humbees, ATCS and tanks.
*Several realistic weapons/tems and weapon/load
carrying system including missile launchers
,in place machine guns and night vision gogles.
*Several positions with diferent options each,
comm expert, medic, squad leader, demolition expert,
rank soldier, pilot, intelligence, snipper, etc.
*Missions based in real conflict zones
like: Somalia, Kosovo, Pakistan, Iran,etc.
*Possibility to join any army
in the fray.
*CB radio, voice comm with interference
effects (high spots=better comm,
ocluded metal/concrete areas=you are screwed)
*No infinite ammo, Realistic loading times
and actions.
*Realistic wound system.
(limbs can be lost, bleeding, visible
bandages when/if cured, etc)
*Modified and optimized particle engine.
for dust, blood, wall damage, etc.
So thats my idea, share your mind about it
and also please mention if someone is already
doing something like this.

Jason I'd say that idea is totally workable with today's technology as you can see here: http://www5.playnet.com/bv/wwiiol/index.jsp=)

For one... you can have a battle with 1000 guys fighting in the same town... but only 64 players will be visible. So the potential is there to get killed by an enemy that you literally just can't see. Having any more than 64 players visible at once would take a pretty hefty machine to keep up. Then throw in all the ballistics calculations for all those guys shooting at once and an you quickly realize that an FPS of that magnitude takes a pretty beastly machine to run.
Despite its faults, its still a very fun game :) Nothing beats a persistent war where your missions actually effect something more than the outcome of a 10 minute round of wolfenstien or something.

I play WWII Online religiously...heh. But it has some problems that they don't mention much. For one... you can have a battle with 1000 guys fighting in the same town... but only 64 players will be visible. Torque Owner JC
I'd love it if someone made a game like this. I love playing military simulations... but none of them really cover it completely. I want more than just infantry... but there really aren't any games that pull it off well.
One version of my idea was to jump on the MMOG bandwagon. It would be an RPG and FPS in one game. The entire game would be set during a real war (WW2 would be a nice one to use).
The RPG layer would basically be similar to your standard MMORPG where people just live and develop their character however they choose. Players that choose to play it from this angle would be the civilians. I've always thought civilians were something all war games need... to make the enviorment more immersive, among other things.
The FPS side would be for the action game fans. They would join the military of whatever country they choose. They could be in the army, navy, air force, etc and use all the vehicles available in that time period.
To me, the idea of having and intense firefight with human controlled civilians scrambling to get away in the midst of it all would make a very good game. It would take realism and immersion to a whole new level.
I'm not sure if the technology/hardware is out there to support a game of this magnitude(my idea, not yours)... its easy to think of games without limits.
If I were you I'd try to make the game. I know once I get comfortable working with torque I'm going to try to round up a team to make one of my ideas.
