Problems with long thin polys in DIFs

I've been having issues with Torque TGE 1.4 crashing on me.
(See www.garagegames.com/mg/forums/result.thread.php?qt=50359).
Usually the map loads and then crashes after walking around a bit (not in the same spot)
I eventually found this which I think could be my problem
www.garagegames.com/mg/forums/result.thread.php?qt=38148.
Basically Torque has difficulty lighting too many long thin polys in close proximity.
(btw - I'm using TLK and Quark)
I'm about to go through my make and make sure everything is detailed and and reduce the number of sides and length of the prisms that I've used to create pipes and cylinders etc. Currently I've been using 16 sides and will probably reduce them to 6 or 8 sides. (Hopefully this will fix the problem)
I was wondering if any one has come across this problem or has any advice?

Thanks for the suggestion. I've managed (for now) to fix the problem by making sure that everything than can be detailed is detailed. I will however leave much of the finer detail for DTS.

I would definitely use DTS for pipes and such. But, just FYI, when I ran into this issue, I changed the brushes to detail brushes and that fixed it.

Is the foliage near any complex dif geometry? The problem I had tended to lie dorment until something small tipped it over the edge (ie. placing a light or a box near by)
