New Computer System Questions ?

by Areal Person · in General Discussion · 09/05/2006 (6:57 pm) · 6 replies

Ok, I'm gonna buy me a big honking PC computer system :)

But Regardless of size & cost I want to buy a good computer
for Torque development.

Is there anything I should know about that are general hardware issues
with new modern hardware and Torque. I was going to get dual core I think.
multi hyper threading or whatever.

Probably big Athalon chip(s). Is there anything I should stay away from.

What are some high end configurations these days.

I was thinking about that ATI Radeon

Only problem with Torque and dual core/multithread systems is that torque has a speed increase. Not in FPS, but in the game timer. The game literally jumps erratically.

There is a fix here though. www.garagegames.com/mg/forums/result.thread.php?qt=35267

I would highly reccommend an NVIDIA card if you have the money. I currently have a GeForce 6800GS, and I've never been happier with any other video card I've ever owned.

Also, if you have the money, the AMD Athelon FX series is very nice. You'll need a socket 939 mobo though.

Intel Core 2 Duo's outperform the latest and greatest AMD's right now. If you really want the best, get the Core 2 Duo Extreme. Much better performance than an AMD, from what I've read.

New Mac Pro

To much money? Need a screen to go with that computer?

New iMac

... atleast, that's where my money's going for my next system.

Edit: note that the intel macs can run windows and osx, which is why i would consider them good for development.

PentiumD dual cores...never experienced this 'speed' up on the timer...sounds AMD specific. nVidiaPCIE6800SLI. In my opinion: AMD for better graphics[watch your processing...], PenDual for crunching...

oh, btw; have had this system for a few months now; no BSOD-ever, believe me; I try....

Macs are 'okay'[if you can open one and fix yerself], can you, or do you have to send it back to Cupertino?? lol.

.65 nm intel 4 the win. AMD's 65's are melting lol.. they will get it just takes them a while normally
to cut the CPU's with wetsaw and photograph in Austin them before trying to figure out how they work.
