Minneapolis, MN or Chicago, IL mini-conference?

by Jonathon Stevens · in General Discussion · 08/31/2006 (2:03 pm) · 30 replies

I'm just curious to see if anyone would be interested in attending a mini-conference for indies either in Minneapolis, MN or Chicago, IL? We're looking at having keynote speakers in the field of virtual worlds/MMOs as well as some booths for vendors. We're also looking to do mini-classes on various mmo related game development topics.

The cost schedule would be somewhere in the vacinity of $100 - $200. This would be a 1- or 2-day conference depending on interest.

OK everyone, better late than never. The website is up, but not quite finished. You can view a basic schedule and vendor and sponsor options. I'll be adding in a lot more pages this weekend and hopefully have it completed by Monday morning. The site is at www.mmogamedev.info

I'll have registration stuff up soon so you can register for the event.

So this is geared more toward MMOs than Indie game making overall?

It's geared towards INDIE made MMOs. The themes will be specifically about Indie developers who want to build virtual worlds or MMOs. I'll leave Indie game making to IGC ;).

I was mostly curious for my brother, who writes and/or publishes Indie Atari Jaguar and Lynx titles. He lives in Rochester, MN and was interested in going -- but he's not into MMOs.

But who knows? He might find it interesting to listen to Dr. Bartle and maybe make a few connections, anyway.

Even though IMGDC is geared towards MMOs, a lot of the things discussed will be relevant in one form or another to any type of game. I would encourage your brother to attend due to this reason. Things like Ethical considerations, Violence and Sex in games, etc. We're having those discussions, some at round-tables, which are in the THEME of MMO, but will be relevant both ways. Make sense?

@Eric
That is totally sweet! I was into the homebrew Jag scene for quite a while. I even bought an Atari ST and interface board to play!
