Design Resolution & color change

Hi,
When I changed the design resolution in Preferences, the background of the level editor became black. I changed it back, but now it is dark red. Picking colors in the Preferences has no effect, and neither does using the 'Restore Defaults'
Anyone know how I can get back the original background? It's impossible to work in the colors it is at now.
