A Few Questions About Torque
by Erick J. Colletti · in Torque Game Engine · 08/12/2006 (11:18 pm) · 23 replies
I discovered Torque last night while conducting a search, and it peaked my interest. However, I have a few questions which need answers, and want to know if Torque is right for me before I download it.
1) Is Torque capable of developing an EA NHL 07 Xbox 360 caliber quality game?
2) If Torque is incapable of developing an EA NHL 07 Xbox 360 caliber quality game, does such a commerical game engine exist? And if so, where can I attain it?
As always, any good info is most appreciated.

Anyhow. i'll jump in and answer your initial question.
It Torque capable of making that caliber of a game.
I haven't seen the game in question. But since it's an xbox 360 game... You'll probably want all them fancy next gen graphics...
TGE doesn't have these fancy graphics. Out of the box it doesn't support bump mapping, phalax mapping, normal mapping or any fancy mappings like that.
TSE Supports various mapping types. BUT TSE is a product currently in development. It's getting close to release from what i understand. What does this mean? It means its usuable but not feature complete yet.
When comparing engines... you'll need to take a few things into consideration.
What type of engine is it? Is it simply a rendering engine like Ilrich? of a "game" engine.
Theres a difference.
With TGE and TSE you get the COMPLETE source files. So anything that's not there you can add in. Either one of the 1000's of resources here... or code it in yourself.
TSE can be ported to the xbox 360 if you get the 360 license, which is far from cheap and you must contact garagegames if you are wanting to actually purchase. Then you must pay microsoft a hell of a lot of money and if your game is good enough, they'll let you do it.

Well it'll be luck to get people to agree to sign on to a project. Most people don't want to start on a "fresh" project cause most projects never make it. I'd say they'd want to jump onto an existing Project that's actually playable.Anyhow. i'll jump in and answer your initial question.

We all must start somewhere.
I understand that many talents are reluctant to sign onto a voluntary project because of past and future failures. However, this project owns promise. A talent can't know the result, unless they invest the effort. With the right team, I guarantee victory. I know exactly what I'm doing. I just need the talent to bring my brilliant vision to life.
Thanks for your verification.

Was your last comment sarcastic or sincere? I need programmers and artists, not luck. LOL
