Using Maya with Torque?

Hello,
I'm an experienced programmer, noob game programmer, noob artist that is looking to make the plunge into game development (as a hobby). I'm currently learning to use Maya, so my question to y'all is: do any of you use Maya to import your graphics into Torque? If so, how have your experiences been with doing that? I've seen on the website that it describes a process for doing so, but the article seems quite old, references old versions of Maya, and it really concerns me what it says about "further updates of this site will be suspended...". Does Maya work well with Torque? Or should I be looking at a different game engine that supports it better?
Thanks for any and all replies :)
