Suggest Phrases for a New Voice Over Pack

by Andrew Taylor · in General Discussion · 08/02/2006 (9:38 am) · 25 replies

I am going to be hiring some voice talent to do some basic voice overs for puzzle games and such, because my cost doesn't vary between 10 words and 300 words, I was thinking that I might create a cheap content pack of voice overs for others to use, however I would like to see what everyone might like to have in a pack. I will probably do everything in a male and a female voice. If you have a phrase to suggest, please post it here!

Some of that I am planning/have been suggested are:

Great suggestions, I don't do much FPS stuff, so I don't know what all goes in those. I will add these to the list.

@Tim - If you're going to throw in the Quake sounds, you MUST include 'GODLIKE' and 'HOLY SHIT' to the list as those two are the best out of the entire pack ;)

Hehe I remember when I finally had a decent enough system to run UT2K4 at full graphic settings. "Holy Shit" was the response from the commentator. Never got into Quake as much as UT.

Charge
Retreat
Enemies (Enemy) in sight.

Perhaps the CounterStrike "Fire in the hole" phrase as well?
Look out, danger, We're pinned down!, I'm pinned down! Cover me, Cover fire.

Good list! I'd look for generic things just like:

Welcome
Bonus!
Power Up!
Ouch!

And so forth. Some of those in the list have a pretty-specific game in mind, so I'd shoot for things that could go in multiple games.

Chris,

Thanks for the extra items! I have added them to the list, which is now at about 100 phrases. I would like to get that up to 200 before I get the voice talent going, so any more ideas you have are much appreciated!

No demand? well thats disappointing :(

What about this instead?
"Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
Did Peter Piper pick a peck of pickled peppers?
If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers,
where's the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?"

Well at $1.00 per word that would be about $35... So I guess it depends on how badly you want that phrase and whether you want to provide $35 for it to get recorded, because I doubt anyone else wants that phrase. :)

Not sure if some of these are in there already, but some standard GUI-like words would be good.

Humorous taunts are always a good addition! I think funny is beter than aggressive... although I did warn a co-worker today that "I just polished my boots, and I'd hate to get your butt all over them."

On a tangent, one of my all-time favorite voice sets is the "Sexy" option in UT2K4. When the female announcer cooed "Flak Monkey", or in the throes of passion shrieked "Unstoppable!", I just about laughed myself silly. And that started all over again when my roommate walked in during a frag-fest and she moaned, "Godlike!"
