Modeling question

by Jeff Wilkinson · in Artist Corner · 04/25/2002 (6:29 pm) · 2 replies

I am currently modeling a car for a game and I am using splines and then covering them with mesh and putting a smoth feature on them to smoth out all the bumps. my question is will the smoth feature show up in the torque engine when I export it or will it just show the bumpy mesh?

In 3D Studio Max "smooth" is a modifier and what the mesh looks like after the modifier is applied is what should show up when exported.

For example you you export the mesh (normal .3ds export) after applying the smooth then reset the scene, if you import the mesh it will be the the way you exported it (smoothed) but if you look at the history there is no smoothed modifier. This is because the export doesn't save the step's in making the mesh, it only saves what the mesh is at that point when you exported.

Hope that helps, sorry for the rambling, its time for bed :o)

Jeff are you talking about the smoooth modifier or the meshsmooth modifier? I am confused as to which modifier you used on your model because they do two completely different things (and knowing which one you used would help alot in answering your question).
