Well, it's blurring anyway... ;)

Oblivion was a bit disappointing in it's gameplay. The biggest thing being the "everything just levels up around you" design. I know why they did it. But it just feels so wrong!

I'm pretty excited about this one. I am a long time M&M fan. I am also looking forward to Gothic 3Oblivion was a bit disappointing in it's gameplay. The biggest thing being the "everything just levels up around you" design. I know why they did it. But it just feels so wrong!

Yeah. I am so ready for this game. This is my personal favorite type of game to play. Action fantasy games kick ass and there's always a shortage of them.

1) XBoX $uck$ forev@!
2) I'm da M&M fan as well
3) Oblivion IS a mess (no fighting riding a horse?! even TGE can do it...)
:)

I thought Oblivion was a great game. I know that a great deal of people in the office were hooked on it for a while, if not still lol :). They didn't do everything possible, though what they did do they did well in my opinion and that's what matters to me. The experience for me was unlike any other game out there.I'm also looking forward to Dark Messiah: Might and Magic though.

So don't expect it to replace your Oblivion experience.

Would also like to point out that the dev team said this Edit: found in their forums under question of the day:Quote:
QUESTION #1 Monday July 24, 2006
Saliens: Will the game be more halflife-like (we must follow the scenario all the time) or rather Oblivion-like (we can go where we want and choose to do other quests)?
The game will definitely be more Half Life-like. It is very action-oriented, and the world is not open-ended. We made this decision because we had to build each level very carefully in order to allow you to use the environment. This is not the type of thing you can do at a huge scale.
So don't expect it to replace your Oblivion experience.

As I said, Oblivion is an RPG, DMoMM is an FPS.

Actually it's an "Action-RPG"... Which in all honesty Oblivion feels like a lot of the time.

That's a shame... I used to love the non-linear format of the old M&M games. That's what set them apart from all the brainless dungeon-plodding hack and slash games, IMHO.

It is possible to generate a lot of destructable objects in a world, but such complex system will cost a lot and take 2-3-4 years to develope...
I like Oblivion myself for the environment and quests, it has some problems, but nothing is perfect. I also do like the idea of sword fighting there.
What I like in Dark Messiah is free action fantasy combat using environment and physics (cost ice spell around a corner and see your enemy slides from the porch down the mountain, or kicking him on the spikes :))

To build an interactive environment is a difficult task, that's why they are building levels, not the world; it's a payoff, I guess. It is possible to generate a lot of destructable objects in a world, but such complex system will cost a lot and take 2-3-4 years to develope...

I'm a long time M&M fan as well, so I'm definitely looking forward to this. However, M&M IX didn't do much for me though.

Now. Where the fuck is Rune 2? That's what I want to know. Prey is going to be FPS of the year. Human Head better spin that into getting Rune 2 made. The little tease posters and shit for Rune in Prey better be forshadows of a sequel and not just empty teasing.

I loved Oblivion. I tolerated the action... if that's what you can call it... because everything else in the game kicked my ass from here to oblivion and back again. But, I gotta go with the linear tight action rpg over the open ended. I like exploring and I always feel like I want to see what's 'over there' when I play a linear game... but the truth is... it's pretty damn hard to do the open ended with the tight action at the same time. Though... in my opinion... in certainly can be done and, for once, this is the type of game I'd like to have seen be episodic. Instead of an FPS. Give me my episodic action fantasy game.Now. I've been fighting the urge ever since I saw this thread. It's awefully hard not to fire it up.

Anton, I think, we are tending to like linear RPG, because it's easier to play on a busy schedule, working 40-50 hours a week plus game development... I also appreciate a Save button, so I can continue with my own pace without repeating a level over and over...

My Oblivion is dusting on the shelf, it seems like I also want just to see the forest and fight some ogres...Anton, I think, we are tending to like linear RPG, because it's easier to play on a busy schedule, working 40-50 hours a week plus game development... My only grief with Oblivion is the lack of good community mods. Morrowind had so many awsome mods. I have yet to find a decent Oblivion mod.
