I messed up my max...

by itttech (#0002) · in Artist Corner · 07/16/2006 (8:18 pm) · 7 replies

I did something to my 3dsmax 8 and i am not sure how to fix it.

It still works, but what i did makes it so i cannot work on my characters...

OK, so when i go to ratate a viewport, my model will disappear and a bounding box becomes visiable and is high lighted, it stays that way until i stop rotating...

so how do i fix this?
i have alredy tyd like reseting to defaults and that sort of thing...

please and thank you

It sounds like you have Adaptive Degradation enabled.

I'm assuming that since you've reset, the standard keyboard shortcuts are loaded. So, press "O" once and that should toggle Max back to the standard mode.

Haha, all the problems I ran into when I was learning max back in the day. Fun stuff.

First off, the gizmo on/off hotkey is X.

Adaptive degradation isn't that useful for working on a single lo poly character. Its used more for film (or I guess super hi poly models). Basically, its a switch you can turn on if you have tons upon tons of faces on screen so your computer doesn't choke when trying to move stuff or move around the world. Somewhere in the preferences you can change what shows up when you turn it on. Wireframe and bounding box are both options. I think there's one more but I could be mistaken.

Max is that kind of beast. Im constantly learning new little hotkeys or tricks or whatever that, after i learn them im like "ah, that makes sense", but are entirely unobvious beforehand. Glad I could help, all the same. :)

Jeremiah,

Sorry to not have responded, I forgot to check the box to follow the thread. The good news is there are always good folks like Adam around!

Glad it's all getting sorted out for you.
