Shadow Resource Hijacked
by Duncan Gray · in Torque Game Engine · 07/11/2006 (8:08 pm) · 20 replies
The Shadow resource, um, MY shadow resource, has suddenly become a resource limited to TLK owners only.
How did that happen? It has nothing to do with TLK. How am I supposed to maintain it if I can't even access it?

Sorry...I think I was the first person to taint the thread with my TLK jabber =)WHAT HAVE I DONE?! *sob*

I don't think it was that. There was a link in a posting that had multiple TLK code files in a zip. Since the poster didn't remove the files from the their server right away, I would guess that the thread got locked down.
@Duncan, it appears that the link is gone now, so I'd do like Orion said and fire off an email to GG and John Kabus and see if the thread can be opened back up.

I don't have access to change resource privacy, you'll need to contact GG about having the privacy removed. Sorry for the mix up, but it should be easy to get resolved.
(and hopefully those cool changes will still become a TLK resource! :))

TLK source files were posted in that resource's comments - it was a completely innocent event and the updates were actually very cool (hopefully those changes will still become a TLK resource! :). It sounds like in the confusion of trying to moderate the comments (remove the download link) the resource was also flagged as private to TLK.I don't have access to change resource privacy, you'll need to contact GG about having the privacy removed. That's a beef of mine why wood i buy some TGE add on or TSE when as a TGE owner you never get to look over the Resources and see if they will help your own app out! its just lame

LOL Instead of thinking to delete the post with the TLK senstive content, they lock the non TLK thread to TLK licensee's only... and not even bother to check to see if the creator of the thread is one. LOL sorry, but it's kinda funny.

Don't worry your comments were fine - working on TLK compatibility with existing resources is highly encouraged! :)
If you do need to post TLK code please use the TLK Private forums or create a TLK resource.

The post was also edited. It could be that the information I provided regarding this incident was too vague. However it's good to know that GG was on the case immediately to help resolve the issue, and I imagine that they will do the same for Duncan to lift the privacy restrictions. Accidents happen.

LOL. Accidents happening are the story of my life. No worrys from me. I think this is funny. Murphy's Law at work. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. It's nice to see I'm not the only one who makes public mistakes this goofy. :P
Man, I needed this laugh today.

Hopefully GG fix it soon.

I'm not pissed BTW, just slightly anoyed, probably because my initial reaction was similar to Anton's post because it's such a HUGE case of overkill that I can't help laughing as well.Hopefully GG fix it soon.

I'm not pissed more disappointed, another resource that are only TLK is this one
fxShapeReplicator: Up to 16 random shapes .
Dont think this is a way to sell more TLK really !

i don't see any code in there related to the lighting pack or even lighting at all.
i'm sure if ben sparks (the author) or somebody else tried it out in stock TGE and it worked,
GG would take away the restriction.

Billy - indeed, that looks like another resource which probably shouldn't be restricted to TLK owners.i don't see any code in there related to the lighting pack or even lighting at all.

Just send GG an e-mail...same thing happened to one of my resources, and they fixed it right away.

I highly doubt that is whats happening. As you can see from the delay in resource approval GG is overwhelmed with verifying that the resources are valid and legal (don't contain code that violates some license whether it's TSE, TLK, or an outside license like GPL, ...). Chances are the resources are being skimmed for references and quickly plopped into a category.
As for that resource, I specifically referenced it in my latest blog as being a cool new public TGE resource that is also TLK compatible.

@John
I assume that the above means GG responded to your email/phone call to alert them of the TLK problem.
Can you perhaps do the same to get it fixed now?
07/12/2006 (2:29 pm)
Well it's been a day and still no fix. Unfortunately GG have never responded to any email I ever sent them in the past so ... I had hoped that they at leat read the forums but it seems thats not the case either.@John

I think the general inquiry addresses are infrequently checked. I was told to contact Benjamin Bradley and Eric Fritz regarding resource changes.

LOL, Ok, I contacted Benjamin and he corrected it on the spot. Now we all happy again.

yai, that sucks.
looks like it has to do w/ recent confusion over whether it's a TLK-only resource or not,
on which topic, quothe John Kabus from a comment yesterday on the Shadow Resource page:
i'd shoot an email to GG and John just to make sure the issue gets on their radar.
i'm sure it'll be cleared up soon.
