Linux Version?...

Hi everyone.
I'm sorry if this sounds like a rant (well, actually, it is a rant) but I'm getting really tired of waiting for a release of TGB for Linux... The currently available releases (1.0 and 1.1 ALPHA2) are completely unusable and if I paid for a product that says it can be used on Linux, I expect to be able to use it on Linux - but I can't.
TGE also had some big problems with the 1.3 release. It was impossible to make it work, unless you wanted to get it from CVS. I still haven't tried the 1.4 release but I sincerely hope it's better. I even tried to get involved in the process of making a Linux release, I offered myself to help test the Linux version and I even exchanged a few e-mails with a couple of people but nothing, my offer was apparently not accepted (which is fine by me, if you don't want external help, that's ok, I understand that) and I came to find out that the Linux version of Torque is "community supported".
Now that's just great... I buy a product that says it will work on Linux and only after paying for it I find out that the guys who make it actually don't guarantee that it will run on Linux.
As I said, I'm sorry for the long rant but this is really really frustrating. I already gave up on one project because I can't use TGB under Linux so I would really like to know when can we expect a fully functional Linux release. If we can't expect it, then I'll kindly ask for my money back and my account at GarageGames to be terminated.

I thought a recompile might be in order, so I did so and it compiled fine. However the the problem I described above was still there.
To run TGB I'm simply doing a:
./TGB.bin
...in the "games" directory. Minor side note: I had to make TGB.bin executable before running.
Running:
Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper)
P4 3.0 GHz
1 GB RAM
256 MB Radeon 9800XT
Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Any ideas?

Just downloaded Linux build and I've run into a snag. I've been away from TGB for a while and I thought I'd reaquaint myself by running through the tutorials. The first problem I've run into is creating a new project based on the "Fish" template doesn't seem to do anything. I thought a recompile might be in order, so I did so and it compiled fine. to load a new project. I have not tried running on Windows to see if the problem spans platforms.

I'm seeing the same thing. New Project dosen't do anything, Open Project doesn't show the available projects. I have to exit and use -game

Looks like the platform layer needs to be tweaked.. again.. I'll look at it this weekend.

Thanks David. I may poke around myself and see if I can help out.

Is there a good place to discuss code specifics for the Linux version? t2dlinux.net mailing list?

I've fixed these issues in my sandbox, but the majority of my changes are simply hacks to get things working for me. However, I do see where the problems are, but I haven't had time to fix things the Right Way. Is there a good place to discuss code specifics for the Linux version? t2dlinux.net mailing list?

Well... the Linux version of TGB is community supported with David being the one to submit patches for Linux specific issues to GG. If you're a Linux user, it would be best to be on that mailing list.

Well, Keith... I am and have been on the t2d-dev list.

I'm just trying to be helpful... it's hard to know who would know about the list, since the only thing on the page for TGB about linux is that it's community supported... no mention there about the list. Reading back up now, I see David has already posted a link to it.

David, I suppose you talked with GG about this but how about GG paying back the work you've been doing for them and host the T2D/TGB mailing list and providing a link for it?

@Jerry: Posting to the mailing list will guarantee I see the patches. I don't read every post here and with what little useful linux material gets posted here will get lost very quickly.
@All: Linux folk should subscribe and participate to the mailing list. This way we can keep a working version of T2D going without waiting on official releases. All the changes and bug fixes will be transmitted to GG if and when they ask for them.

@Raul: As for hosting, I'm a hosting provider so it's not costing me anything more than my usual overhead. As for compensation, we've worked out something in the past. I'm not on GG's "A" list so communication is sparse at best. Linux is not a priority for them.@Jerry: Posting to the mailing list will guarantee I see the patches.
