Merging Game Builder into TGE
by Jeff Trier · in Torque Game Builder · 06/27/2006 (6:56 am) · 13 replies
Hi all,
I was looking around the TDN and the forums to try and figure out how to merge the Torque Game Builder with the Torque Game Engine. I could have sworn I had seen this before back when TGB was called T2D.
Does anyone have a link to a comprehensive guide on this?
Thanks!

I merged T2D into a build of TGE 1.3 for our project. All that was really required was to add the t2d source files. I imagine the same would be true for the latest version, except it seems to be based off of TGE 1.4.2 so there might be some conflicts with the TGE 1.4 code base.

Step 1: Merge core/gui changes into TGE using your favorite merge tool
Alternate Step 1: Wait for someone else to do the above
Step 2: Copy the engine/T2D directory into TGE's engine directory
Step 3: Add the new files to the relevant project for your compiler
Step 4: Build
Step 5: Make your game
Step 6: Ship your game
Step 7: U will mak lodes of c4$h!!!!!111!!one!11!1
Step 8: Spend your new found cash on a new pair of underpants
Step 9: Wear them on your head for that eccentric game developer look
Step 10: Get committed to the loony asylum
Step 11: Break out of loony asylum and make a new game
Hope that helps.
Edit: You can skip step 1 if you dont care about using the level builder.

I'm stuck on the alternative step 1, any way to make that go faster?

I have long said GarageGames needs a pledge system, i really dont need/want this but there are about 20 TSE optimizations/tutorials that i would gladly pay 20$ to see in now rather than later, and i am sure i am not alone. The original TSE bounties were the right idea, but not enough people knew about them..

Now, I don't expect you to stump up $150, but make me a fair bounty offer and I'll do a merge this weekend. You can email me at the address in my profile if you want to discuss it privately.

OK, here's a suggestion. My usual contracting rates are $50/hr. I estimate this would take me about 2 - 3 hours to ensure everything is merged correctly and working - the GUI changes between TGB and TGE1.4 are fairly hairy due to some changes to core GUI controls that means they look like ass without changing the existing TGE profiles too. Now, I don't expect you to stump up $150, but make me a fair bounty offer and I'll do a merge this weekend. this isn't something i really need/want, All of the things i'm interested in are TSE atlas/rendering related. and i think they are due out in a code drop after Ben gets back from Vacation
again thank you for your offer.

Well that's fine :) The offer is there if anyone wants it. Just figured it might be a good way to jump start some kind of bounties system.T.

Thanks for the offer though Tom!

I think a bounty system is a great idea, and if I truly wanted someone to do this for me, I think I would kick down the duckets. I am more looking for a guide for that learning experience. :)Thanks for the offer though Tom!
