Best way to model arms?

Hey, I'm trying to work out what the best position to model the arms in would be, with the inner elbow facing the waist or facing forwards? This is more to do with the boning of it.

    Forward facing has worked well for me thus far.

    Paul Steed uses facing forward in his book. He's the guy that did most of the models in Quake 3 so his method seems to work.

    I've have never seen a tutorial on character modelling that uses facing inward but maybe we have all been wrong all this time =)

    Do this:

    Stand infront of big fullbody mirror (if you dont have any, skip this part).

    Stand with your arms hanging down the sides of your body.

    Flatten out the hands so the thumbs is pointing forward still with your arms down.

    Raise your arms until the are level with each other.

    If you are normally build your thumbs should still be pointing forward.

    This is the way your should model you models.
    Arms up and thumbs front.

    This will then fit nicely with the biped sceleton you'll add later (if using 3dsmax).

    Hrm, alright.

    Main reason why I asked this question is because I have a lot of trouble grasping the way it should look, because a standard pose is normally with the palm facing the body... and I couldn't work out how the elbow relates to the hands rotation.

    Although recently I worked out that with the model I'm using (He has a trenchcoat) the actual trenchcoat doesn't move, only the hands when rotating along the hands Z-axis... so it's going to be a seperate object, and the trenchcoat wont inherit any Z-rotation in that respect.

    But then again, that's gonna make things difficult later on when I want the arm to bend in different directions... hrm.

    Has anyone made and boned a model with a trenchcoat, or any long coat that goes down to the wrists? How did you get past this problem?
