I need advice on my art

by Ally · in Jobs · 06/24/2006 (1:11 am) · 7 replies

Can I get some honest opinions about my art.

http://ally.1sweethost.com/

I know I don't have much on my website at this time, but I am trying to build up my portfoilio.

What I what like to know is if any my stuff is worthy to put into a demo reel.
I am mainly interested in trying to get into the game industry as an texture artist or modeler.
I've been involved in personal 3D projects of my own the last few years and don't really have any real work experience in this field.

Thanks in advance for any advice or critiques.

Ally

Very nice textures!

You could make some texture packs and sell them. Maybe make special theme pack's of textures. I do think there is a marked for that if the price is right.

+It would build up your portfoilio, and your credit list.

My 2 cent.

I have to say, my 2D sprites would be flawless if I could put some sweet textures on them like yours, Ally. My game making being a hobby though, the only thing I've paid for is TGB.

There are good and bad things. It lacks a bit of life sometime, but overall it's pretty nice :)

I'd suggest you join a project (here on GG for example) and build more stuff to show. You'd need more quantity before making a demoreel.

Heya Ally,

I really think you have a great portfolio going there. One thing you might want to do it host with a company that doesnt have ads etc all over it. I use GoDaddy.com ($4 a month is good for me :) ) Add some navigation to the site, more stuff about yourself etc. (Thats not what your post was about, but I wanted to mention it as far as your presentation goes)

Your textures are good, and I like the models. One thing you might want to do with your textures is add some contact shadows, ie bounce light, shadows coming up from below. More lighting/contrast in general, but the detail is all there, good stuff. Nice humanoid models, though I thought the hands were a bit thin and the legs are a bit short, but thats just me nitpicking. Great stuff!

I agree with the other guys here about doing some work for the sweet projects they have here.

Well heck. i suppose i'll comment.

Firstly i don't really like the face on the girls.. maybe it the texture, but it's kinda weird.
Lets see.. this other... Diana. says you only spent 14 hours... but man her neck is definately wrong. Her's has like this very funky curve going on.
