I want to get into more 3d modeling but cannot afford the software at this time! Are there any good character, or landscape softwares out there for free? Also i would need a tutorial seeing as i am new....thanks!

Milkshape isn't quite free but $20 is very affordable for a 3D tool. This has basic torque functionality

Wordcraft is a free 3D editor that many use to make interiors for torque.

www.openfx.org Is another.

There are lots of others, some free, some free with catches.

Just some links to get you started on your search.

Like above, I would suggest Milkshape3d because it is cheap and it has all you need for modeling. It has basic animation support but you will probably eventually want to try CharacterFx which is only $15.

Anim8or (http://www.anim8or.com/) is free although it is harder to model with. It does allow basic rendering though.

Tell us what you choose so we can help you with tutorials and such. I have a lot (3 pages???) of resource links that I need to go through, so just ask for anything more.

I've tried Anim8tor, it's hard to use. I can't even create a bounds box for a .dts!

John was waiting a hard six years to hear about problems with Anim8or. Okay, it was six years minus two days.

As mb suggested, don't forget blender. There's also wings3d, I know a lot of people that enjoy using it...
