RC2: safeDelete stops particles before finish?

My particle effects are getting deleted before the particles die, which was not the case in previous versions of the engine. Using safeDelete, they would stop emitting and when the last particle's lifetime ended, they would be deleted. In RC2, they disappear instantly, as if being deleted rather than safeDeleted. Was this intentionally changed or is this a bug?
