TSE in a usable state right now?

Is the TSE in a usable state right now?

In other words, if I buy TGE then TSE, I can install TSE and start learning/generating mega buck games with TSE right away (TSE is usable but not complete). Right?

We shipped some XBox games that used early TSE tech (Marble Blast, Think Tanks, Orbz). MBU used a much further along version of TSE. With the coming update including the rendering improvements, the PC version of TSE will actually be in better shape than the 360 version - we'll have to back-port the cleaned up batching system.

Keep in mind the legacy (non Atlas) terrain is also available for use in TSE. You can bring over your terrain files from TGE. And scripts; the script system is exactly the same as TGE's.

that's extremely good to hear.

Ho, looks like my comments stirred up a mini-discussion. I think Stefan answered well for me however. Thanks Stefan. The only outstanding thing is the comment from Brian Ramage

"But you guys are talking like you can't develop a game without dynamic lighting. I agree you shouldn't *finish* one without it, but really even if you had to write your own, it would be about 1-5% of the development time on a serious RPG."

That's exactly what I said at the end of my post

"But you can start learning and generating much of your game right-away, although you will hit frustrations until the final release is completed. In the great scheme of things it would take you longer to write an RPG than for the engine to be ready anyway (I hope!)"

So your slightly annoyed sounding comment about "you guys" was out of place. I was saying exactly the same thing as you :-)

I know from the TSE forums/plans you guys are feeling a bit picked on and frustrated at the moment, but please don't shoot down people trying to give their honest view of the engine as it stands at the moment. There are an equal number of fan boys on the forums, so all in all things seem fair to me.

Remember that the people who have TGE have no access to see the discussions on the TSE forums. It's unfair to them to have to buy a product blind, with only good comments from the vendors. You should bear in mind the weight that an employee has on threads when they wade in with their comments, and perhaps be more tolerant of honest comment. I certainly was not slagging the engine, I was saying some things are missing but will be there eventually. Is that unfair?

Cheers,

Dave.

Good grief Dave, sorry to hurt your feelings man ;) I was referring in general to the subject of missing dynamic lighting which was brought up in the context of whether TSE is usable. I felt that needed a clarification and some light ribbing. Sorry if you took it personally, I wasn't intending to pick on anyone.

No probs, I was surprised by your comments that's all. I thought perhaps you were having a bad day, but maybe I misunderstood. Oh well, let's let this die gracefully now :-)

Cheers bud,

Dave.
