We need a real Bug Track database

by Alex Rice · in Torque Game Builder · 06/11/2006 (10:56 am) · 12 replies

This kind of thing happens all the time with Torque. A torque user posts a bug fix in the forums. It's not fixed in Torque core 18 months later. www.garagegames.com/mg/forums/result.thread.php?qt=20626

Although in that thread, it appears it was intentionally not fixed?! Can't say I understand that logic. But when posting bug reports in the forums, I am always wondering if it's going to fall through the cracks.

However with the TGB beta and RC* releases, you guys [edit: guys and gals?] have been very diligent and I think all my reported issues have been fixed already.

Too bad their locked into a PHP platform... I have an open source Issue Tracking system "Inside Track", I would customize for free for this.. (Mines Apache + mod_perl)...

@ditto on What Alex says below.. You guys know I think you rock. But I build professional tracking systems for my real income and understand what Alex means :-)

To GG staff: by starting this thread I am not being critical of anyone. I know you all are burning the midnight oil to get TGB shipped. However if you step back and look how many bug reports and bug reports w/ fixes have been lost in the forums, it's not a very efficient scenario.

I was under the impression that people could add bugs to Mantis. I'll ask some questions.

We have Mantis running for our projects, and it's what we use to manage bounties as well.

Thanks Pat- I remember looking at Mantis and seeing only the TGB Bounties, but no other products to view.

There's some bug trackers we use which are pretty good at keeping tabs on things...though getting people to fix them is another matter :)

Bugzilla and Jira.

I agree. It's a waste of community to ignore all the fixes people offer. At the least, it could provide a centralized index for others to find fixes that are otherwise buried and lost in the forums.

Uhm, I remember some bounty stuff in some Mantis bugtracker here, but I can't re-find it. Is it linked somewhere? I searched also TDN - no success.

I agree also.

Trying to find out if there are known video issue with TGB. I am having serious problems. A list to refer to would be great.

Hey all, sorry have been away at PAX and this is the first time I've connected to the net back at the hotel (at a 1.0 mbs wireless connection lol... very slow =0... ). Internally we use mantis to track all of our engine bugs and now our doc bugs, at our next meeting I'll propose us either opening another one for the community or finding some sort of access to it :)

Even if we don't get a new bug reporting method, I agree about the "not sure if I'm being heard" sentiment when posting to the Bugs forum. A post from an employee either confirming that they've been able to duplicate the problem, or will look into it, would be so helpful, just to avoid that "is anyone listening?" feeling.
