Programmer needed for new game project.

by Mark Pilkington · in Jobs · 06/04/2006 (3:59 pm) · 10 replies

I'm currently working on a UFO/Xcom type old school game with both tactical 3D missions aswell as base resource managment. The game follows survivors after a zombie plague that has seemigly devistated the whole planet and you must survive by foraging the devestated city for food, munitions and other survivors. The game will play very much like the UFO:Aftermath game in full 3D and in realtime yet powered by statistics. I have already made a good junk of test artwork that can be used for potential programmers and have also made a large 15 page design brief (thats getting bigger) as well as a small milestone document to break the project into manageable chunks. I'm a very dedicated artist and own both TGE and the RTS starter pack for any programmer that may need a helping boost.

If your a programmer that wants to work with a hard working artist then please reply to this thread or email me. This is perfect for any die hard zombie fan such as myself.

My experience:
I've spent about 4 years animating for games and I use Maya, Motion builder and can easily handle mocap raw data and use photochop. I currently work for a games company in England making titles on the PS2, PSP and PC. I'm also done alot of work in the Doom3 engine. Torque is something I've always wanted to learn and hopefully with abit of time we can prduce something thats both fun and impressive.

Cheers.

I still currently need some torque programmers to help me out on this project. I still need some dedicated hard-working programmers that have a good understanding of Torque TGE or can learn it.

A new GUI screen idea of the mission screen where you can elect teams to to carry out the dangerous misions or send out runners that can find points of interest to send more armoured teams out.

I'll keep posting art updates on here untill I find a programmer, for the time being I'll just keep going.

Ah there has now been some changes to the City screen idea and the player screen. The images have been updated for the links aboe so just hit one of the links above.

But basically player models have now been textured.

Also added a simple base managment map, this won't make much sense without reading the design brief first but..oh well.

Marcus,

Great looking stuff and ideas. I'm currently in a very large MMO project as well as developing on the MMOKit for TGE, so unfortunately can't help you as a full time dev. However, I would be able to do resource swapping with you. Code for your game in exchange for art for mine? If this is your first attempt at an indie game, you probably would want to get on a team for another game to build up your rep in the community and such.

Well to be honest its all going ok, I have a coder now thats learning Torque and an Artist that has 4 years experience in Torque aswell so he's showing me the ropes but thanks for the support anyway but I don't really have the time to help anyone else....as selfish as that sounds :( I don't get much free time and all the time I have I want designing this project..if that makes sense.

At the moment I'm kind of using this thread as a project blog anyway keeping people updated. I found that alot of people post ideas and thats it with out showing any kind of artwork. I've always found people don't want to invest time into an idea but something that looks solid and well put together so who knows what will happen.

Cheers anyway Jon, if I get any spare time I'll look into helping out but right now its impossible with work and this.

Great to hear you found a programmer! Good luck with your project. GG has blogs where you can post updates to your projects, I'd suggest that rather than a forumn thread. That's what the blogs were made for after all ;)

Well...you can never have enough people so I'll keep advertising here anyway hehe.

Characters are starting to get their textures now anyway.

(Characters above are 500 polys and supplied in association with Mere-mortals games developers)

Although we do have a programmer, he has never used torque before so we do need a programmer that can work on this project still and treat the project like a main project.

Cheers.

X-Com! I also like FF-tactics and D&D minitures (table-top game), which I see as very similar.

I am very interested but doubt I can contribute to your team right now. I am still learning and I don't think I am ready to join such a large project, however interested in the game-genre I may be =D

Good luck!

Hehe thats cool James well when you gain some experience you'll get snapped up by someone, I'm also very new to torque.

I'll be posting some art updates at the weekend no doubt.

Here some more environment models for the game, we still need a good torque coder.

-Dif models-

www.blacktreeuk.net/deadzone/2d_renders/wall_section1.jpg

(Models above were made in 3D world studio)

-Dts models-

(theres actually alot more models ready to be saved to dts but I've no screenshots of these haha but they are mostly trash cans, and crates, traffic cones - quite dull models.

Again, if you think you can help code in the project then please email me...my address
is a few posts up, we allso have Subversion set up for the project aswell.

Cheers
