Im new to TGE.. the source code modifications won't work..

by MiNiZeRo · in Technical Issues · 06/04/2006 (1:41 am) · 35 replies

I've tried to add the "Air Control" and the "Air/Double Jump" to the TGE by:
http://www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=resource&page=view&qid=4123
and
http://www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=resource&page=view&qid=7191
and it dont works.

i've checked it for at least 10 time and it seems that theres no mistake...
and yet.. the game acts like the source have not changed..
theres no compilation error or something like that...

============================
hold on a sec... i know that it isn't the place to ask about it.. i need to ask the modification's author about it.. but... its not it...
i just want to know if my steps was right...

once.. after deleting my *.dso ive changed the engine's source code folder name from engine to _engine...
and yet... the cs files was compiled... i cant figure it out...does it dont need the source files to be compiled?
if it doesn't, why we are changing it?? if he does.. why it was compiled after i was changing the directory's name??
============================

im new to TGE...
check if my actions was right...
i did as follows:
i've changed the player.cs, .cc, .h as they say in the tuts...
i've deleted the *.dso...
i've run the game with the "C:\3DGPAi1\tge.exe" by creating a shorcut "C:\3DGPAi1\tge.exe -game starter.fps"
(im trying to mod' the fps example)
and i've tried it also with the "C:\Torque\SDK\example\torqueDemo.exe -game starter.fps".. same
i've pressed "start mission..." and the other button and started to play...
after that.. it plays normally.. without any change...

did i do something wrong?..
Help

Source code c++(.cc/.h) and Torque Scripts (.cs) are two different things. You need to recompile the source code in a c++ compiler. But why you have access to those resources at all is beyond me, you're not listed as an SDK owner...

I dont know... i have access to some resources... and for some i dont have...

after the source code compilation... it should be working? (the modification) ??

You have to be a SDK owner (That is have a license to Torque) in order to compile the source files (The .h and .cc).

I didn't ask why i can't compile to source file... i have asked if it will work after it be compiled?
(dont worry about the licence... i found a solution for it...)

The solution was to buy the engine, right?

I have not used either of those resources and have no idea which version of the engine they were written for. Nor do I know which version of the engine your solution has garnered you. Therefore I answer d) Not enough information.

I hate multiple choice tests.

I have the version 1.4

But you did not purchase it from GarageGames, and therefore cannot use it legally.

And therefore the comunity most likely will not help you in any way, with questions reguarding the engine itself. Besides you'll get access to the SDK forums, and your question might already have been discussed.

If you're using the demo, you will need to purchase the SDK to make the requisite changes to the source code. If you wish to make any source modifications, you should purchase the engine. If you do not wish to purchase the engine, there are a number of free alternatives out there such as Irrlicht, Crystal Space, Quake/2/3, and Nebula.

EDIT:
On, and you didn't answer the question with Paul's comment. In fact, we were commenting on the same thing, not answering ewach other's questions. If you are not a SDK owner, you haven't purchased the engine. At least not from a legal outlet.

This comment makes me suspicious.

He must think that people around here don't care about the piracy of GarageGames' products. Boy is he mistaken. And on the GG forums themselves? That's like announcing to everyone in a store (including the employees) that you just stole a CD player.

Im not going to publish it or something.. chill.. im going to try it.. and
if (i'll like it)
{
i'll purches it;
}
else
{
i'll delete it;
}

100$ is not a serious amount of money ... but i will not spend it for an engine that i dont like...
im trying it at first.. if i could come up with a game.. ill buy the licence...

Bwahahahahahahaha

ahem

no one is going to help you.

Trying it is what the demo is for. Publishing has nothing to do with it. The fact is that you still technically stole it, and you can be prosecuted for that if GG so chooses. If 100$ is not a serious amount of money, then you should really just buy it.

And seriously, no one will help you.

Then, as I noted, use a freely licensed engine. Or Source. It was leaked and you have full Half-Life 2 tech and modified Havok tech.

There are huge implications for actually using the tech in a project, but you don't seem to care about such things.

So gogogo!

I think that its the demo..... if there is such one... its says "demo"...
#17

Then, as I noted before...you can't add source modifications. Scripting modifications, yes. But you should also note that the "demo" is fully functional (minus source). The feature demo is just one piece of the "demo".

Just by the eninge, its worth it, then you can compile all the time, 24/7

Oh.... so... if thats the case..... before that ill try to buy a licence to something... does anyone got a better engine that he could think of?
